You can buy new Model M keyboards. IBM spun (or sold, can't remember) their Keyboard division to Unicomp, who still sells online through PCKeyboard.com. I've purchased two keyboards from them.
For an older model M you'll have a few considerations:
-Connector. A lot of Model-M's use a RJ-45 connector. There is no adapter for these. If anything, you'll want the PS/2 or DIN connector.
-Even with PS/2, you might need an adapter, depending on your motherboard.
-on ebay, most Model M's with PS/2 connectors sell for around the same as a new Model M from Unicomp, so you wouldn't be saving anything going that route.
I'll keep these in consideration. Thanks. I'm mainly wanting that vintage feeling of the older IBM's. (And they sound great.) I'll keep balancing my options though.
I've wanted a fun project for a little while now and I think I've decided on trying to mod an IBM model M. Is there any way I could get this thing painted black and add RGB lighting under the keys? Doing some research. I am aware of the issues BC has told me, but I think it'd be a fun project even with those.

I'm sure you could paint it if you wanted to, not sure if it's a good idea. But I highly doubt you could fit any decent lighting under the keys, not easily at least
