one day i was playing mc and i went to sleep, when my aunt it has viruses and her USB flash drive have no files left an i look to the Win Defender cus we dont have 3rd prty anti virus. so now they got mad at me and said "DONT PLAY MINECRAFT ANYMORE!!!" cus it has virus and i have one question for them
WHY DO YOU BLAME MINECRAFT AND ITS JUST A GAME!?
well one enjoyable game couldn't a computer ESPEACIALLY if its JAVA!!!!
JAVA is SUPER DUPER SAFE that why its in your computer!!!
but they have a point on one thing..i download mods SO? mod from this forum ARE safe right and i dont download mods from minecraftdl, skydaz, 9minecraft and etc. (except planetminecraft cus some mods redirect me there...)
So WHY!?
btw im only 12 but familiar to computer hardware like cpus and gpus, im using an old 3rd gen i3....
Anything can carry a virus and since you download minecraft from the Internet they think it could've carried a virus. Mods can also be suspected of carrying viruses. Also correct grammar is a really nice thing to use

Java is not safe. At all. Java in browsers even less so, there's a very good reason a webpage has to ask explicit permission for anything running on Java in Google Chrome and other browsers (Java, not Javascript. Two different things).
There are countless 'mod installers', 'launchers', account 'hackers', giftcode 'generators' and other tools related to Minecraft that are very malicious and will install R.A.Ts on your computer, or 'viruses', as you said. Granted, they're not all Java based, but a good deal of them are.
There are so. many.people. that have had or still have infected computers as a result of said tools, make sure you're aware of the risks, and don't just blindly download and run anything.
Worth mentioning, I have seen a good few R.A.Ts posted here on these very forums, and have pulled a couple apart with .NET Reflector and shut down the related email accounts that were collecting the Minecraft accounts (putting the email account password in plain text in the source lmao, sillysilly). Always be cautious.
What's funny is my friend downloaded MC on his mom's Macbook, and 2 days later her computer was dead....
She blamed it on minecraft and made him delete it off all of his computers. Turns out the macbook died from hard drive failure, which was because she dropped the laptop multiple times.
Some parents are PC "know-it-alls" despite the fact that they are computer illiterate. Back in the day I would always get "don't ever scan for viruses because that's how more get put on" or "the computer has a virus?! okay, turn the pc off and let it rest and i'm sure that will fix it, durr durr durr."
Your parents are just jumping to conclusions and take the easy way blame route instead of truly understanding what the problem is.

1. Java actually isn't safe. I would recommend using the launcher that does not require Java.
2. If your downloading mods. My tip is to ONLY download of the Minecraft Forum. That way you know it is virus free as there is alot of other people that have downloaded it off here.
3. I do agree less computer-literate adults may blame video games for viruses. It's like this,
Bob likes to collect rocks, but one day he caught the flu. His mum confiscated all his rocks because they muuussssttt have caused the flu :/
Some parents are PC "know-it-alls" despite the fact that they are computer illiterate.
I feel like I ought to add to this- it never goes away.
I am a computer programmer. I literally do it professionally and make twice what my parents make put together. I build computers as well though not exactly every single day.
My parents are both computer illiterate. My mom barely knows how to use a mouse and until fairly recently I found the reason she didn't like it was because it "controlled strange". As it turns out she was using it backwards.
And yet still, they seem to think they know better about tech things. I allowed them to use my very old Dimension 4400; I installed Linux Mint 16 on it and everything was fine. since the system had worked fine for nearly a decade, I didn't for see any problems. Within a week, it was hanging randomly while powered on, then refusing to even boot for around an hour or so. Even when I booted to a DOS Floppy it hung after a while. They said it was probably a virus. I said it was a motherboard problem. "No, it must be a virus because we saw one of those ads when I was running Google". I usually just say "Right well I suppose I'll just defer to your expertise then"
I still have no idea how they managed to break it within a week. They must be doing something unusual but I can't imagine how I could even cause this sort of motherboard problem, and given I used the system for almost a decade without any of these sorts of issues clearly they are doing something different. I'm tempted to spec out a low-cost browsing computer build for them just to find out what crazy failure they have happen, also because I feel like building a new PC but don't actually need another PC.

It's funny how parents are so quick to tell you what you've probably done wrong on your own PC, however they put on the sad puppy dog eyes and ask for your help when they need it. So they get to kick back and watch TV with their hands behind their heads while I have to waste my time and get rid of 8 different kinds of viruses on a laptop I borrowed them because they surf the internet like careless 12-year-olds.

i like how this is just a flame against parents and their computer problems. I remember the days when I had to use my moms pc and everytime something went wrong with a computer its because I downloaded something. But then there is my mom going on all these sites likely made outside the US or Canada, that have the shadiest User Interface ever. I swear, previous generations are too cocky. Back to the actual topic of this thread:
Mate it is likely not your fault, but you might want to invest in a 3rd party antivirus software. Even Forge could give you a virus, also some links can give you a virus without you knowing, people can do crazy stuff with tech.
i have heard and seen similar problems. a motherboard can go out anytime it want's, cheaper ones are more at risk for this. i'd recommend sticking to building all pc's unless you need a laptop for some reason. giving the age of your system, it was likely about to go pretty soon.

Not every website is based in America.
OH NO THE AMAZON WEB SERVERS ARE IN IRELAND. IT MUST HAVE VIRUSES AS IT HAS A BAD INTERFACE.
well you got my point, I am saying not to go looking for offshoots of websites like 9minecraft, or go looking for extremely poor quality websites, that can be easily replicated with a few lines of html.
Just to add to this conversation. May have already been said, but whatever. You have to download minecraft from Minecraft.net. There are a lot of sites out there that say "Free Minecraft Download" that carry a virus. My cousin wanted to download minecraft. So he did, and he used a random site. And that download carried a virus. Unfortunately they didn't get an anti-virus until after this happened. The same thing can happen with mods. You really have to be careful with what you download. Even though it's just a game, there could be a virus in anything. It's a sad reality.

Just a quick question. Why do you have no antivirus?!
Kids are known to introduce viruses into computers no matter what.
