This is my first time posting, and I'm wondering if the answer to my question might be somewhere in these forum walls, but I'm going to jump right in and ask anywho.
I'm new to Minecraft. In all sincerity, I've never played it. However, my eight-year old son adores it and sometimes it's tough getting him away from the game just to come eat supper (yes, that's an issue for another discussion on another web forum (Dr. Phil, perhaps? LoL)).
My question is this; though my son loves the game, he's strictly on the playing side of things. He knows nothing about installing mods, but he watches a lot of Diamond Minecart and Stampy Youtube videos to know that he wants to install some mods. My question is, once a mod has been installed, is it easy to switch between them or even turn it off so to speak? I don't want to mod Minecraft and have it stuck that way.
Please, forgive my ignorance in this matter, but any answers would be greatly welcomed.
To install mods first chose a Minecraft version to mod, I recommend 1.7.10. Switch the launcher to 1.7.10 by clicking edit profile and selecting version 1.7.10 from the first drop down menu, then launch the game and close out. Next download Minecraft Forge for 1.7.10 and run the installer, then launch the game to finalize installation. Opening your Minecraft folder you will find a new folder, added by Froge, called mods, place any and all mods in this folder. Most mods can work alongside each other and conflicts are easy to solve. You can run as many mods as you like but running too many may cause the game to lag. Also when removing a mod any items added by the mod will be removed, this can sometimes corrupt a save so make back-up's if your adding or removing mods. As a way for your son to play around with mods easier try downloading a ModPack launcher, the three biggest Technic, Feed The Beast, and the ATLauncher are well known and trusted in the community. Also many of the larger youtuber's post the packs they play on in there series on these launchers so he can play along with his favorites. I'm not sure about Stampy but the Diamond Minecart normally posts packs on Technic.

Try curse launcher It is by far the easiest I have found to make custom packs, it downloads, installs, then launches the game and mods for you. You can play packs - edit packs - or make your own packs, with what ever mods are available on curse.com.
