I was going to add a new ore to worldgen for my mod PhoenixCraft, but low and behold when I googled the name I had thought of "Firestone" it turned out railcraft had beaten me to it and on top of that the textures looked somewhat similar. I had not known of this before hand. What do you guys think are these textures too similar? I went for those diagonal stripes because of nether quartz ore and I like the idea of the crystal showing like it had clawed its way out from the stone. And also anyone know a better name than Firestone that will be less copy catish?
Yours is a darker red so I think that's alright. Many ores look the same but just have different colors, like tin vs iron vs lead are all a shade of grey (lead is a bit blue but tin is very similar).
Instead of firestone, what about Pyre or Ember? Or Flame, even?
Instead of "Stone" why not change it to "Embershard ore". Since you mentioned it was crystal, I feel "shard" works better than "stone", and I feel "Embershard" works well with: Embershard Block (how it's found in nature), Embershard Ore (how it drops when mined), and Embershard Crystal (how it is when smelted).
And to answer the questions in a backwards order, no, I don't think they're too similar. Like CosmicDan said, all ores look the same. No one will blame you if you ore looks like anyone else's (after all, they're both based off of Minecraft's ore, so who's copying who? ).
