The Wiki has a list of all versions of MCP ever released back to Alpha 1.1.2_01 (possibly not including some versions), including Beta 1.8.1, which is MCP v4.4; I checked the download link and it still works (a couple others are listed as dead links):
However, it may not work without some twiddling around with files since back then (before release 1.6) the game stored its files differently (in the bin folder, which no longer exists; at least as of MCP for 1.6.4 and later it can automatically copy the required files from the .minecraft folder so you don't need to manually copy them).
