I must admit all the different versions of minecraft confuse me.
I went into the android playstore on a samsung tablet, searched for minecraft, paid a bit, got it working. the splash screen makes no mention of pocket edition.
But most of the literature on the net I've seen mentions PE being the mobile edition, and shows a splash screen that says "pocket edition" under the minecraft logo.
Is the play store version I got and PE one and the same thing?
If not, how do people refer to the android edition of minecraft?
Do mods and apps that work for PE also work for the android edition?

Pocket edition is a thing of the past, it's now just called "minecraft". To differentiate it from the Java edition, it is also called bedrock edition.
