So I found out that apparently, even though that animals aren't supposed to spawn in caves, they do.
Coming from Java, I did learn that animals can spawn all around the overworld if the light level is 7 or greater on any non transparent block, regardless of whether its a grass block or not.
Okay, but I also read that based on the Wiki, there's individual caps for different mob categories for Surface and Cave.
Basically this:
Animals have no cave density cap, so technically they cannot spawn in caves. Or so I thought until I saw this:
This is near bedrock level and there's no sun light coming in at all. So can someone smarter than me figure out why that happens?
Everyone can edit the wiki, that's what it's for: to adjust the information to the current game version.
That's not my point. My point is that it makes zero sense for animals to spawn super deep below the surface whatsoever. And yes, I know I could edit the wiki but based on what? I don't know what causes it or whether it's even indended.

I'm unsure if you're referring to java or bedrock version. If bedrock, then there is a bug that was introduced 2 or 3 versions ago which made it so that passive mobs can spawn on most solid blocks, rather then just grass blocks. https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-39727 is the bug report, it's been confirmed but has no fix yet.
Passive mobs, for the most part, should require grass blocks to spawn on and only if the light level is greater then 7.

Oh thx. Yes, Bedrock version. Otherwise I would've posted it in the Java section. I actually didn't think that it was a bug that passive mobs spawn on all sorts of blocks. I just thought that it was supposed to be like that and just part of the broken spawning and despawning that Bedrock has.
This is actually a serious bug and should have been patched with the very next version, but as normal the bedrock devs prioritize other things over world breaking bugs.
How is this bug is actually game breaking? If one remembers that overtime we explore and light up most of our caves, and we take into consideration that passive mobs do NOT despawn, and will overtime keep spawning more and more mobs, then it stands to reason that in time, caves will become cluttered with tons of passive mobs. I've already experienced finding a cave with more than 20 of the buggers cluttered together. I'm also sure that most of us don't 'revisit' all the caves we've already explored on a regular basis. So unless this bug is fixed fairly soon, expect your worlds to start to lag, slightly at first, but ever so increasing.
Lmao, I have the same issue with Drowned. Every little puddle of water where they can't get out of just results in them spawning more and more, and because for some stupid reason mobs tend to not despawn when in darkness (in light for passive mobs) and also never despawn at all if you interacted with them at any given point. I seriously prefered the way Java did it simply because I never had to worry about non despawning mobs ever.
I actually had a baby wolf spawn in my base (about 8 blocks above bedrock). Spent like 30 minutes trying to figure out how it got there...now it makes sense

Can confirm this.
Also happens when you build a house and have some sort of roof interior/storage. Even if it is not intended that mobs spawn there they do.
Only possible workaround is to use fences so that no mobs spawn there.
Oh and the wiki is wrong, they also spawn on carpets and slabs even that the wiki says something different.

Mojang has a bug tracker, did you look there?

Fun right?
