I noticed after upgrading to bedrock, I need to use way more torchlights to keep monsters from spawning in my closed off places. Before a few scattered around was enough, as long as it was lighted. Have torches become less potent?
Aesthetically it looks bad to have all these torches sticking out everywhere.
Well, to be absolutely certain there will be no spawns, you'd need a torch about every 13 blocks. This ensures that no block has a light level below 8. Are you finding that you have to place them closer than 13 blocks now? I haven't noticed a difference really, but then I've always spammed torches around (without measuring) so maybe I'm just used to areas cluttered with torches. Tho I switch to glowstone as soon as I've got a steady supply.
That is bizarre. Any way you can post a screenshot of an example area where a monster has spawned? Although I don't measure, I definitely have places where the torches are spread out 10 or 12 blocks and I've never had a monster spawn inside my base or on the roof or anything like that. I had a spider find its way from the caves under my base into my base, but that was my fault for leaving a spider-sized climbable opening. I'm on Xbox as well (mostly).
I spammed the areas with more torches where the monsters spawned, I don't remember which torches I placed down first since now they are everywhere and I locked the villagers in their homes to be extra safe. But it's pretty much a savanna village with small rivers and bridges over them.
I'll keep an eye out for any other holes/or when I make the trek back to my other village.
I wonder if my map was created funny. Can console maps get slight corruption? I made this map 2 or 3 months before the better together update.

Yes absolutely. There's a bunch of bug reports about Console Edition worlds getting weird after they got converted to Bedrock. I don't know specifically about weirdness around torch light levels and monster spawning, but converted worlds have more than their fair share of issues, for sure.

This is on xbox one.

When I'm branch mining I place torches every six blocks just to be sure, because theres no way to measure light levels on console.
Yes, especially if there is uneven ground (1 block higher up). I feel like I have to do 5 spaces apart or something.
