I've never played Minecraft before.
My roommate thinks I'll be terrible and I'm driven by spite.
He's promised me $25 if I can get to the Ender Dragon by Sunday, (12/10)
And $50 if I can kill it before the end of Sunday.
I've been encouraged to use the wiki and outside help to accomplish this task, simply because he thinks I can't do it. (Also my girlfriend promised me nudes if I could kill it and beat the challenge--)
Normal old survival mode, I suppose. I installed right after making this post, I have a full set of iron armor now and I'm planning on making chicken farms as a main source of food and feathers for arrows. I've only sustained two deaths so far, one to skeleton arrows and one to a creeper to the back. I'm strangely surprised that I'm just now figuring out why they call them Creepers... you don't hear it coming until its too late and it blows you all to heck.
Next main mission is getting a book of enchantment set up in my main hole in the ground.
Pretty good progress. What system are you playing on, and what version? I like underground bases, very practical. If your bet doesn't stipulate the difficulty, I suggest switching to easy (maybe even peaceful for most of the time).
I've noticed that peaceful mobs spawn like crazy right now. You may not need to make a farm, but just wander around and kill what's around.
I can help you make a fully automatic chicken farm, but you'll need redstone dust and quartz from the nether.
An enchantment table is helpful, but you won't need good enchanted stuff until the dragon fight (i guess, depending on your skill level). To make the table you'll need obsidian and diamonds. You'll need a diamond pickaxe to get the obsidian. There are two ways to get a diamond pickaxe. First, the standard way, find diamonds, craft a diamond pickaxe. The second is to trade with a tool smith villager. I like the second way because the pickaxe you get that way is already enchanted. But it can be problematic if you don't have materials to trade for emeralds. Let me know if you want to trade for it, I can give you good methods for that.
You should go to the nether soon, to get to the end you'll need blaze rods from there. To get to the nether you either need obsidian, or a lava source and a bucket to make the portal. Once in the nether find a fortress and kill some blazes. You should be able to do that with iron armor on. But be careful, it's easy to die there. And usually death in the nether involves fire or lava, which means losing items. After your first visit, if you have blaze rods, nether wart, and magma cream you can craft portions of fire resistance, which make the nether much less dangerous.
If you have questions on specifics for any of that stuff, let me know. I'm happy to go into more detail. After you get blaze rods, let me know and I'll tell you the fastest way to get through the next part of getting to the end.
PC, Windows 10, version 1.12. I haven't been able to ask about the difficulty setting, but if I can set it lower I will definitely do that, lmao.
Well, I lost all that progress and restarted a fresh server hoping for better RNG, managed to set up a basic chicken farm right off the bat, above-ground main base. Sheep, pigs, and wild chickens all nearby, nice open spot near woods and exposed rock, big old cave tunnel nearby.. Very nice RNG it looks like. Currently I have several underground mini bases as I dig deeper looking for more rare stuff. Wearing a full set of iron armor, got two spare sets in the main chest, two bows, 30 arrows, trying to just craft and store as much battle loot as possible.
I have no idea how to find anything on the surface, where to look for the villagers or how to get to the nether or any of that. Navigation is a big issue I'm having at the moment. I have a couple of emeralds and some gold ore, so maybe that's worth something for trading if I can find them.
You're playing the java edition. You're posting in the wrong part of the forum. "Minecraft" refers to the version that used to be pocket edition, now sometimes referred to as bedrock (which is the name of the engine it's built on). There's enough difference between the bedrock editions and java that my help could lead you the wrong way in some cases and i don't know what those cases would be. You could move over to the windows 10 version of you want, it's part of bedrock (at no cost if you own the java edition, from what I've read).
If your going to start over you should find a recommended seed that has a stronghold near spawn. There are sections of this forum all about seeds. But look in the java section. The seeds here will be similar, but probably not the same. Generation between the editions is similar, but i don't know if I recommend one to you it will work out (i have a great seed for your challenge for bedrock). BTW, to speed things up, you can create the same world again (using the same seed) and do things like find the stronghold with commands, making the search much faster.
You don't have much time to meet the challenge. Based on you starting over, I get the feeling the list of items you need is much larger than you know. I will attempt to give you an idea of what you need just to get to the dragon, you'll need more to defeat it.
To get to the end you need to enter the end portal. The end portal only appears in a stronghold, which is always under the well of a village, but not all villages. To find it, (unless you use the creative mode commands strategy) you will need eyes of ender to find it (an unknown number), and then you'll need up to 12 more eyes to open it. The eyes are made from ender pearls and blaze powder. I already told you about blaze rods, which are used to make the powder. The pearls are the time consuming part. They drop from a rare mob called an enderman. Enderman are rare enough I'm guessing your roommate is betting you can't get them fast enough. What everyone seems to forget is you can trade with priests to get them. But to trade for enough you need something like 60 emeralds. You can trade for emeralds, but that's lots of resources you have to gather first. And just for completeness, you have to find a nether fortress to get blaze rods. To get into the nether you need obsidian, which can only be mined with diamond pickaxes. So you need lots of diamonds or tool smith villagers and emeralds.
Villages are randomly spread across the world. You just have to explore to find them. Better than me explaining every detail of the above, you should look it up on the wiki. Once you have obsidian, a nether portal is easy. For navigation, use maps. A locator map is required for exploration in my opinion. Again, look it up.
That jackalope reneged on his own bet, and so this is what I did with my time instead:
I'm camped right next to the cave with the End Portal though, I could have at least reached the Dragon if I cared enough. At first when I told him I was using peaceful mode sometimes, he gave me flack for it but then he was like, "I'll give you that," when I told him, "But, seriously, it's in the options menu,,," .....but then later on he proceeded to call me a cheater and a "little b****" because I wasn't doing my first run ever strictly on "normal mode". Soooo.... yeah he can eat his money, I'm probably still getting those nudes after this though, my girlfriend is still proud of me for trying. xD
Lol. If peaceful wasn't an option for the bet he should have said so. You didn't know enough about the game to ask up front. Not like you switched over to creative, I don't think anyone would debate that's cheating a bet like this.
Thanks for the update. Hopefully you now have a game you'll have fun playing.
