the "pc is better than console" argument is getting a little tired now Riverboat. My experience has been that pc is laggy and problematic though I would never say it was better or worse, just different. Its better in other ways. I never get why people feel the need to say this platform is better than that one. The OP was talking about map coordinates being a cheat. Try to stay on topic rather than trying to start a mudslinging contest about who's got the biggest processor
A lot of people keep saying that playing with coordinates makes playing in survival easier, so therefore it must be a cheat.
However.... You can play the game in Peaceful difficulty in survival, which completely turns off hostile mobs and makes the game infinitely more easy to play, is not a cheat. This makes no sense.
The problem is that Microsoft/Mojang are trying to win over the console community to the new version. Coordinates have been a part of the Xbox One console edition since day one.
Yes, we have infinite worlds... What's the point in it if you have to build your base near spawn to find your way home?
Yes, we have realms.... Same thing. Unless everyone on the realm just wants to build a giant community build together (at or near spawn), spreading out and building your own bases in the world might be fun, but if you can't find each other in the world, what is the point in playing together?
Yes we have servers.... Since we can't create our own actual SMP servers the ones included are really nothing more than glorified mini-games. If they ever add the ability to console versions to allow connecting to actual SMP servers, we're going to have the same problems as we have with realms.
This game was designed to allow us to play it however we want. There are so many options as to how to set up your world: Creative or Survival? Peaceful, Easy, Normal, or Hard? Some things should be considered a cheat in the game, but taking away something that a group of people that you are trying to win over are used to having is quite a bit rough. It's hard enough dealing with the major differences in redstone, but you're not winning any brownie points with these people by slapping them on the wrists and calling them cheaters.
I do home that Mojang retains it's hold on the Java version, and keeps Microsoft away from that....
Are the Bedrock team Mojang or Microsoft?
Microsoft bought Mojang lock, stock, and barrel. Mojang = Microsoft for all intents and purposes. Microsoft has said that the Java edition will continue. That could change over time, of course.
I don't use coordinates for finding my way or to not get lost. They are for lining up tunnels from opposite ends or for counting out a build site. I can't understand how some people here would get enjoyment from counting out a 200x200 site to start your build. It just gets frustrating if you miscount . Nothing about that seems like cheating to me, but I guess some think differently.
You don't need to build near spawn, you can easily make roads or markers to get home (that in my opinión makes the game a lot more fun tan just looking some numbers up). Or is it too difficult for people?
You still can find the bases of other people, it's easier to just say some coordinates that's for sure, but that doesn't mean that without you can't find anything.
I don't really care if it's cheating or not, i like the option to not show coordinates in w10. People just want everything easy and with the least work posible.
Yes, there are other ways of finding things in a world. There is also stylistic concerns as well. Maybe someone doesn't want a road travelling 10,000 blocks to get to someone else's base. Maybe they don't want a bunch of unsightly markers throughout the world to mark a path to someplace.
I'm okay with the fact that coordinates can be disabled for people that don't want to use them with their play style. I just don't like the fact that they have decided to punish people for wanting to use them. This is not the way to win over a market of over 5 million Xbox One console users.

at the very least they should give us coords on the map. that only makes sense, they can even limit it by only showing coords for the area that the map displays

My view on the whole thing is that coordinates are important if you want a full survival experience. Coordinates are necessary whenever you are working with nether portals in order to prevent your portal from interfering with your friends portal in multiplayer. People are going to want the opportunity to earn achievements but they also don't want to be limited and now you have a situation where they have to choose between being able to work with nether portals, or get achievements.
This is my case for why coordinates should not disable achievements. Thanks for taking your time to read this.
I disagree with you theres a way to get the achievements with coordinates. You have to always make a copy of the world and move the player in both worlds to make sure the coords are correct when you do stuff.
With coordinates you never get lost, no matter how far away or Deep in a mine you are, you just have to hit f3 and done. If you think that that doesn't change the game and was intended in an exploration/survival/building game than we have different opinions on what an exploration/survival/bullding game should be. I think people just want it easy and in my opinion coordinates took a lot of fun away from minecraft.
I agree with this and have coordinates turned off in my games / realms with survival.
You always know where 0,0 is (as that is your initial spawn). With coordinates turned on you can always find your way back to 0,0 and thus know where to go to find your home. Or you even have your home base coordinates written down on a post-it sticker and just run directly to it using coordinates.
This means maps and compass in the game are completely redundant.
With coordinates turned off me and my friends actively make and explore maps, and make copies of the maps in case we lose the original. This makes the game play more fun and engaging rather than just add/subtract values to the coordinates in a corner to find your way.
Also, anyone who prefers to use coordinates are free to do so as it can be activated easily in the settings.
The argument that Steve should be able to mark his position on graph paper or otherwise know his X,Y position when an area is explored is a really weak argument. Steve is already doing that when you have a map equipped and you explore the map to remove the fog-of-war.
Is it a cheat?
As far as survival mode goes I would say it is absolutely a cheat.
I have coords turned off and like to use maps and compass as this gives me a more immersive survival experience. I also understand while people may want them when building certain things or lining up portals. I don't think it's a cheat in terms of any of the achievements, so even though I do TV personally like to use them, Im glad they were added back in for those that do.
The F3 tab is for debug purpose, that means it is the screen used by the developpers and shouldn't be considered as part of the gameplay. Because there are a lot of debug information there, if coordinates were part of the gameplay, then info about your cpu usage, current fps, used memory should be useful for your progress in the game. And now if you agree that coordinates are not part of the Survival gameplay, then using them should be considered as cheating.

This thread is a year old, it is for the Bedrock version of Minecraft that doesn't have F3, and the devs have since changed the game so that we can display coordinates without disabling achievements.
That seems... really stupid. How would you save the location of things too far to remember directions? If you were lost, how would you find your way home? Hope this is fixed in the next patch.

So are maps cheating? Most maps have coordinates.

Hmm, well I don't really see why this argument is still rattling on. Coords were added. Topic closed 😁

In creative mode? Who cares really.
