Hello there fellow pocket edition brethren (and sisteren?)!
Firstly, I would like to say that I got the urge to do this after reading through TMO's Survival mode blog. I thought it was a wonderful idea and that it would be quite a bit of fun to share with you my experiences playing Minecraft Pocket Edition. Seeing that the MCPE community is fairly small in terms of player content I figured it might bring some of you joy to have another one of these blogs to follow. I will be using TMO's format more or less. You will see what I mean as you look on.
Next, let's get to a bit of info:
-I am playing this from an Iphone 6
-The current version that I am playing is V.0.10.4V.0.11.1 alpha
-I usually play when I am commuting to and from work or school. This amounts to around 6 to 10 hours a week, (usually less because a lot of times I spend my commutes reading)
-I occasionally use an app which allows me console commands. I'm using it for coordinates ONLY. (it gives me options for other things like teleporting, item spawning, etc... which I will not do on this world. Keeping it 100% vanilla survival)
-I've never played Minecraft on PC or any other platform. (Although I do follow the Hermitcraft series on YT, Love it.)
-I have not decided yet whether I want to set a consistent schedule for my progress updates. (Help me decide?)For now they will not be set on any type of guaranteed schedule.
-I will be posting progress updates, stories, lots of screenshots, and maybe a tutorial or two as things come up. (Redstone alternatives please?)
Also I'll be listing my entries below, for quick access if you see something interesting
*note: for some reason the hyperlinking doesn't work. I tried to fix it on my end, but the URL doesn't save in the same way I leave it. If anyone has a fix let me know!
I've been playing on this particular world for about two months. It is called "My World V2" (I know, so creative) In my V1 world I died and re-spawned in a foreign land many blocks away....away from my 3 weeks of work. I was a noobie (still am) and I didn't know about the compass. So I got really upset and deleted the world and told myself, "You know what. That seed was meh and my creations were meh and I will do things a lot better with a new world. This time I can generate a seed that I like!". Which is what I did.... And My World V2 was born!
Now let me show you what it looks like.
This is my first house right next to my spawn point (which I will show you). (Tip: You can tell where your spawn point is by using a compass. It always points there!)
Standing in the same spot just looking in the opposite direction.
There is a island across the sea which I've already explored a bit. Will be going over there for some adventures eventually.
This is the land past my house, further inland. Surprisingly, I have not explored very far in that direction. I will though! I plan to steal TMO's paths; Not his exact paths silly, but the concept of having them. I know it's nothing new but seeing his build made me want to explore more and those paths are a great feature to have. With the paths, I will be connecting my spawn area with vilages, caverns, projects, etc...
Where better to start than my starter house on this world. This house was more experimental than the previous one I had built in the world I lost. It's sort of all over the place. It includes 3 floors, 2 balconies, and an external staircase/balcony which has a railway stop built in. All of this was impulse building and not planned out.
Here's another angle.
Naturally, I built a mine on the first floor of my first house (I think everyone does that). And what else does everyone have on the first floor of their beginner house in survival? That's right a Crafting table/Stone cuter/ and Furnace setup. But HEY, I decorated the floor in some eccentric way. That amounts to something right?
Here's a view of my eloquent mineshaft. She's a beauty isn't she?
But for real, I haven't even begun to think about ideas on what to do with this shaft. If you guys have any, I'd love to see or read them!
This is my Bedroom. Fairly simple, we have an elevated bed, a chest next to the bed marked "Combat", and four ways to get in or out. You know, just in case I wake up to mobs.
I'm sure a few screenshots back you saw my house from a second angle which included this feature pictured here. It is one of my four exits; It leads directly to my main base, you'll see what that looks like soon enough.
See? Wasn't that soon? I literally dug out a large sand island for the sole purpose of making an Island Base of awesomesauce. You can probably tell I had a lot of sand by my excessive use of Glass. Deal with it. I love glass. note: disregard my dirt scaffolding. Forgot to remove it before taking the shot.
Now, this I am not particularly proud of. I built it impulsively (like the rest of the house) and it looks bad and I should feel bad. I don't why it's here. Quite frankly, It looks so bad I avoid this part of my world as much as I can. I should probably destroy it...or at least make some modification to it. But i just can't even be in this room...I'm going to leave to another location now. Gah.
Now here is my external staircase/balcony thing. I built it because I was building a rail system. The rail system will all connect at a centralized location (Which I can't wait to show you) and will transport you to wherever I decide to make it. So far it has three stops: This house,my island base, and my lookout tower.
Very sign. Much wow. (And a peek at my central station ;))
This is the second and main stop (so far). The train descends into the island base's main area. Right in front of my central storage! I'm very glad with how it came out.
Here's a quick shot of my Central Storage area, nothing special.
There are 3 ways to get to my Island: The glass corridor, the railway system, and this.
Can you guess what it is?
I'll tell you.
It's an underwater tunnel which crosses from the mainland into my island. Yes INTO not ONTO. And boy was this feature a headache. I eventually had to reconstruct it because it was off center with the layout of my Island's interior.
What it looks like when you go in.
I gave this route an official name.
Here’s a gif I made of what it’s like to go through this little tunnel . I think I may eventually update this gif to be more frames...but for now this is what you get
Now that we're in my island, let me show you around.
Here are those wonderful spruce trees that greet you with a warm nature feel when you enter through the tunnel.
Walking past the trees, I've installed a staircase that leads to the lower floors. I only have one lower floor for now, I haven't been developing that part of my base yet. I need to think of things to put there.
Here' a view of that master staircase which will descend to all future levels. You can also see Fred (The fourth) here. He's the chicken stuck on the handrails of the staircase. He likes that spot quite a lot. However sometimes he gets loose and wanders to his death. I try to keep track because I always respawn another Fred to replace him when he dies (or despawns). Oh and also you get a little peek of my wheat farm over there on the left and my lava water fountain in the back.
Oh no. Fred the fourth is about to die. He left an egg to remember him by. Looks like Fred the fifth will have to move in.
That's the lava water fountain, don't ask me how it hasn't been turned into cobblestone...I guess the flows were just right.
Fun story behind this fountain: so you know how there' a ton of wood everywhere....yeaaaa....the first installation of this fountain proved harmful. I quickly put out the third of this room that caught on fire and carried on building. Little did I know that the fire actually spread to the second floor wood. By the time I came upstairs 50% of the base was gone. I wasn't too upset, I wanted to remodel a bit anyway. Only wish I had screenshots of that little episode.....oh well.
Here's my underground wheat farm. The water streams are actually connected to the pools of water surrounding my two spruce trees upstairs.
See the holes?
We are moving on now...I've shown you my home now it's time for the lookout tower!
Ah, the lookout. An interesting structure. I originally just made a regular rectangular tower in the awkward corner of my island. I wasn't pleased so I decided to hop into my creative world to design a upper room. I wanted to make a good looking observatory that reached the height limit. That way if I die and respawn I would have an easier time spotting home.
Let us go up. Yes I built a spirally railway up to the top of the tower. That way I don't use the poorly designed staircase in the actual stem of the tower. And at the same time I get to relax and check out an awesome view.
Lol, that's my impressive train station on the top of the tower.
Another view. You can see the little viewing platform. It needs a design or something, perhaps I'll work on that later.
I love the way the ceiling came out.
Here we have a ladder leading to the roof. Just in case you want to...go there...for some reason.
None of my builds are really "finished" yet, I plan to add and change things around here and there. With that being said, I have started two major projects. This is one of them. Say hello to Central Station.
This 71 block diameter circular platform with a glass dome roof is my favorite project yet. A big part of it is the massive size and another part is the aesthetically pleasing glass dome.
If you ask me how I'm doing it, I can assure you i'm not modding....I am playing from a non-jail-broken Iphone6 after all.
I simply went on http://www.plotz.co.uk/ and looked at the sphere layout for blocks and replicated it by looking back and forth layer by layer. I hope to finish it in the coming week or two (at time of writing it's 04/16/15). We'll see.
*Finished it (04/23/15, Hah!)
mmmm symmetry.
As you see, it's only half finished. However, I have done the floor a few weeks back. I semi-improvised and tried to make a unique floor pattern. I made the largest square I could....and then I made the largest square I could within the border of the first square and repeated this until the center block. This took a heck of a lot of resources.
Next, I'll take you to my second major project. It's entrance is located behind my first home, hidden in a partially hollowed-out hillside. (which I will surely clean up soon)
Oh yes. It's a designated Nether Spire Spawn location.
Seeing that the Minecraft's Nether World is technically the underworld beneath bedrock it only made sense that the tower spawn should be based at bedrock. It's as if the nether is breaking out. I don't know, it gave me an awesome excuse to build a long and deep staircase: which I actually enjoyed. I look forward to decorating it soon.
The staircase cut in to my strip mine perfectly. I leave 3 blocks between each branch and this staircase is 3 blocks wide. I actually didn't plan this...It slipped my mind that I had a strip mine in this location. I got lucky.
And so, the staircase leads to a hallway which extends to the end of my strip mine. To make room for the actual spawn area, which is rather large.
What did the Wiki say? 17x17x32? Oh, i could dig that out....It shouldn't take me too long. Hah...
I used all the TNT I had, which was not a lot (Only two actually). And i was hesitant to use it because of the risk of destroying resources like diamonds or Gold. Inevitably, I dug the majority of this out with steel pickaxes. (And got a few diamonds :D)
As you can see below, I've already begun gathering my glow-stones and whatever else. Muahahaa
That's all I have so far.
I'll update this thread with new posts from now on. For the most part I will leave this section untouched. (unless I decide to update that gif, fix a mistake, or something of that sort)
For the most part I've been working on the room and corridor leading to my Nether Spire spawn area. It took me quite a bit of playing around in creative to finally come up with a design I like. I also died several times because I'm terrible at working with lava...it's ridiculous. You would think after the first time I would at least bring a bucket of water with me...but no.
You may have noticed there's a glass ceiling. That's because I've actually created a second floor corridor that sits right above that main one. You can walk straight from my strip mine into the second floor corridor and it looks awesome.
Clearly I've still got quite a bit of work to do before I can call this project finished. I have the staircase, the spawn area itself, and the very front of the main entrance room to work on. I can't seem to come to any good design ideas that would compliment this room.
I mean just look at this place... (there is the same thing on the opposite side of the staircase.)
Hah! Thanks man And we all have different building styles which makes this even funner. I'd love to see this section of the forum grow so that I could see what other people make.
Today I've been working quite a bit; Making progress on the Dome!
Also, I've been strip mining a bit lately and I've overshot my main tunnel several times. I'm changing the floor to polished granite, that way I'll notice.
I am OH SO PLEASED to announce that my glass dome is FINISHED!!!! It took me quite a few careful hours and about a dozen deaths, but oh man was it worth it.
This is a major step in the development of this station. There is plenty left to do of course. But, the dome itself was an enormous project that was seriously fun.
I plan on connecting my Island train station stop directly to Central Station. I originally wanted to make a railway coming down from the lookout tower. However, that seems like it would be a bit of a mess (aesthetically) and also impractical. Why would I take a train ride all the way up to my lookout tower just to take it back down into Central Station? It wouldn't make sense. So here, I've already begun progress on an additional track leading into my Island's interior.
So since the last update I've been getting these supports together. They took an awful lot of resources. I had to go tree farming for the massive amounts of Dark Oak Fence Posts which I used in the design of these rail platforms (Which you can check out below). It was a lot of block placing, so it took me a few days to finally finish up the main lines of the railway. I haven't placed all the actual rails yet due to lack of resources; this means for the next few days I will be caving a whole bunch. But I'll get to that later... The only rail which is really finished the the one that leads to my island base. The rest will be extended very far depending on where I decide to explore. The longest rail is the one going "north" in the thumbnail below. It goes on for 400+ blocks before reaching land. I'm extremely eager to go exploring. I have a goal in my exploring, it has to do with my favorite block
I NEED to get some Acacia wood. From what I can tell there is no biome close-by which contains my prized Acacia. It's just such a nice block. The colors and the possibilities and the scarcity....I want it....so bad....
Also, I'd like some villagers. I had explored an area in the "northwest" direction (if you use my pic below as a sort of compass) and I found a village. I may have terrorized it a bit. I hope villagers are still there, I'm very interested in lugging them back to my base to set them up in a coastal town I plan on eventually building. We'll see how that turns out in due time.
Anyway, let me show you some sceenshots.
(larger version in the Additional Pictures tab)
Uses Cobble, Stone brick, Dark Oak fence posts, and torches. Every 9th block there is a "lighting station" and every 18th block there is a powered rail. They are stupidly expensive.
Older screenshot. I changed it to one powered rail every other lighting station. (again, one every 18th block)
This is an arch I designed for the entrance to the Dome. I think it fits perfectly. Simple and it compliments the dome.
Below is the Northern Rail, stretching as far as the rendering distance could see.
Alright I have a little more to mention. In this
you will notice that my "southern" rail actually leads to the beach near my starter house and mine. I plan on having an underground connection to my mine ladder and underwater bridge.
but I haven't gotten a chance to do any decorating yet.
Now, Caving vs. Strip mining...I need lots and lots of gold. As far as I can tell I've been having an easier time finding gold while caving. As a matter of fact I feel like I get all my resources except for diamonds in a far more efficient way when I cave. Also, I'm tired of strip mining. It's sort of tedious after a while and on top of that my branches are pretty long so bleh. I'll be caving. End of discussion.
On another note, I think I will end up adding a list of projects to the introductory post. This way both YOU and I can keep track of what the heck is going on in my world.
That's right, this jem is just up the shore from my starter home. I already managed to find 3 diamonds and a whole ton of Iron and Coal. Unfortunately only 5 gold so far. Granted, I've only really played for an hour and a half since the last post.
Anyway, here's something funny I managed to witness. See that chicken in the first screenshot I posted? Well... Check out what happens.
He fell! lol
And he flowed all the way down into the cave. Poor fella, I don't think he'll find his way out of this one.
For the sake of direction I downloaded an app that allowed me to type in a console command for coordinates. Now I have some reliable directions. Finally. Although this app allows me other console commands I am keeping this world 100% vanilla. NO spawning items, teleporting, etc... The only command I am employing is coordinates.
Now let me show you the true directions.
I surveyed the four main entrances of central station. We have:
(408, 63, 78) Which is the North entrance. It points in the direction of my island base
(373, 63, 111) This is the East entrance. It leads towards the island across the sea opposite of my start house.
(379, 63, 41) This is the West entrance. It leads directly toward inland, where my starter house is.
(341, 63, 73) This is the South entrance. What I considered "north" in the post about the railways is actually south. It leads towards an island some 400+ blocks away.
Here's a plot graph of these coordinates to give you an idea of the orientation.
I emptied out that last cave pretty quickly. It wasn't as large as I thought and I managed to get a few stacks of coal and iron, but only 20 gold. Not exactly a plentiful bounty.
I decided to venture southwest and i discovered a beautiful hills biome.
That Archway is my latest mine. It's literally a hole in the ground.
And I managed to fall into that hole. That's how I discovered it.
I discovered a very large and confusing cave system. It's confusing because there are holes in the floor all over that lead to a different level of the cave system. It's nearly impossible to keep track. As a matter of fact, I spent the last few hours essentially lost. I somehow circled around and came back to my little base near the entrance that I fell in to.
Here's the entrance to my little base: Has two chests, and the typical furnace/crafttable/stonecutter setup. Nothing special
Another fun addition to my adventure is how I almost fell into a pool of Lava.
I think i tried to place a torch on the gravel floor and it collapsed right under my feet. This was close to the end of my trip, I had quite a lot of resources. I managed to cling onto the corner of a stone block.
And here are some extra photos
I've always managed to find diamonds on the walls near these massive Lava pools.
Awesomesauce
I found Diamonds right under a spawner, and yes I was on peaceful
You've probably got your own methods for handling confusing caves, but if not, you might give the carpet method I used in Arkel a try. Get a lot of white carpet in your inventory and drop it along the left side of the caves as you explore downward. To find your way back, just put the carpet on your right side and follow the breadcrumbs home. I used different color called to mark paths to things, like black for explored paths, red to lava pools, etc.
I saw the carpet thing. I should try that out. I didn't realize you color-coordinated it, that's actually a pretty awesome concept. Looks like I'll be getting my sheep farm back together again. (They de-spawned because i was in peaceful mode for a while)
I've been using signs saying things along the lines of "Already explored" "Nada" "Nothing here" & "This way out" "straight ahead", etc...
But signs are hard with this particular cave because there are an overwhelming amount of directions to go.
Other than that I've been planting the occasional cobblestone pillar to let myself know I came from that direction.
Slow progress, these final two weeks of my semester have been pretty hectic. I've only played an hour or two since my last post. However, I have a couple of interesting screenshots.
Oh I love to see all the rarest resources all together in a neat little group. This made me smile.
I also found this supernatural occurrence....Lava and water co-existing. Straaaaange
As some of you may have noticed, I disappeared for two weeks. Yep, it was the season for final exams and I focused an extra bit on those so I stopped playing for the last two weeks. But, I' back!
From the last post, all i can really say is that I finished cleaning out that cave I found. Here is what I walked away with
36 Diamonds and a stack and half of gold! Not too bad. I think I will take a break from resource gathering to do some building. I still have to finish the Nether tower spawner location and also plenty of exploring to do. Hopefully we'll find some interesting biomes.
Alright, i've done some exploring as well as some building!
After that last post I spent some time exploring for upwards of 10000+ blocks in two directions. I'll explore the other two some other time.
Unfortunately I did not find my precious Tiaga biome which I am so eager to find. Here are some shots of what I've found
I decided to go South East since the railway in that direction was laid so that I could get off on the nearby landmass.
For a while I wasn't seeing anything but the same Ol' Forest & Plains. I eventually entered into a colder region where I found some Spruce Trees & Mountains
However, in the distance I was delighted to see a village. The only downside was the fact that this was something like 5000+ blocks away from my base. Since I know there is a village somewhere nearer in a different direction, I decided to go raid the village for some books and leave the villagers in peace.
ERMAGERHDD TWO VILLAGES RIGHT NEXT TO EACHOTHER AHHH why is this not near my spawn
While exploring I quickly realized that one of the cottages was burning down. I did not cause it, it was already burning when I arrived. I did my best to put everything out and keep the village from totally perishing. All i have for evidence is this picture of the nearby tree that caught fire. I didn't think to take more pictures for some reason.
These are the remains of the house which was on fire.
Shortly after I found a third village peeking out right around the border of my rendering distance. When I got there I found it to be abandoned. Whatever happened there must have caused the villagers to move into the two side-by-side villages I had just visited.
Carrying onward, I found this eerie place. At first I didn't know what it was, but I quickly realized I was in a swamp biome. AWESOME, that means lily pads. I got two full stacks of those for future building projects.
Here's a porly timed screenshot of what was supposed to be a wonderfully lit sunset with orange and red beauty radiating forth. But I was a second late. So...here's a mountain thing I found.
On my way back I found this really interesting formation. Two floors of land. Best believe it was cool.
In summation, I found a triple village spawn, as well as some lilies and pumpkins. No Tiaga.
In other news, I made some progress on the Nether Fortress area.
I began to build a staircase on the surrounding wall which leads up to the "attic" area.
Here's an interesting angle of the enormous spawn room.
I made the floor of the attic area from glass, I thought it would fit the theme. And I also mirrored the staircase of the other side of the room. I have a whole ton of work to do down here, but I am having a hard time settling on a design.
I don't think I mentioned this, but I'm actually taking summer classes this time around and they are pretty intense. This is part of the reason I've been fairly inactive. Another reason is because I've been reading a ton, I usually play MC on the train but as of lately books have been far more desirable to me. But I have made some progress to show you!
I've been working on my Northern Railway — which doesn't actually extend to the north — but rather it goes down to my strip-mine.
Let me stop blabbering and get on with some pictures
But that's not all, I actually built the spiral railway all the way to Y=12
Also, I have to deal with this very annoying bug in v.0.11.1 where I can place or break anything if I am looking up. Is anyone else dealing with this? I haven't looked at other sections of the forum.
It's frustrating when you're trying to build — especially underground.

Hello Hello
Time for the very first update.

You obviously like doing buildings waaaaaay more than I do!
I'm impressed with your work, and gratified that I apparently inspired someone to create and show off this kind of creation
Keep up the good work!

Hah! Thanks man
And we all have different building styles which makes this even funner.

The last block has been placed.

Railway supports are in progress!

Older screenshot. I changed it to one powered rail every other lighting station. (again, one every 18th block)

Anyway, I'll be caving for now. See you in a bit

Look what I found, do you see it?

That's right, this jem is just up the shore from my starter home. I already managed to find 3 diamonds and a whole ton of Iron and Coal. Unfortunately only 5 gold so far. Granted, I've only really played for an hour and a half since the last post.
Anyway, here's something funny I managed to witness. See that chicken in the first screenshot I posted? Well... Check out what happens.
He fell! lol
And he flowed all the way down into the cave. Poor fella, I don't think he'll find his way out of this one.
Anyway, off to continue with some caving.

And here are some extra photos

Straaaaange

Yay! Finals are over.

I'm keeping it strict surivival so no duplicating for me! I feel like that takes some of the fun away

Another post will come soon (I hope)
Cheers!

A new way to the strip mine!
