My daughter has recently started playing minecraft on her old iphone. I know nothing about it, but am a tech nerd.
I downloaded the Apple TV minecraft app. I saw that you could connect to servers to what I am now reading about is multi-player minecrafting.. I guess.
I wanted to connect her to a "world" server. So I started looking into the process. It is really confusing to me. Most just respond with "could not connect". some say we are kicked out. A few we connected to, but were asked for a password.
So i quickly spun up a minecraft server locally here for her and her friends to use. I used the current "pocketmine" versions which appears to be 0.15.
I am still confused on what pocket edition / non-pocket is? but I am assuming its the same just mobile version of the server its connecting to.
Once I got it up and running, the connection was denied because of incompatible versions.
After further reading, I see there are many server versions, and client versions. You need the correct client / server version match before you can connect.
So i guess my questions are...
1. how do you know what client you are running? I still cant find a resources that shows me what version my apple tvs minecraft is using.
2. where should I go to find servers we could connect to to play around?
Ideally id like to make a home server thats available to the outside. But I can not find good documentation on this, and there appears to be a fair amount of fragmentation going on.
Any insight would be helpful. Im an old newbie who is confused.
Im assuming most arent running 0.15 anymore. "Pocket edition" is a bit misleading. Windows 10 runs pocket edition as well as most mobile platforms and Im assuming apple tv. 0.15 has been fairly recently upgraded. Its now 1.something. So running a server with 0.15 unlikely will work. Its possible to run an older version. But not easy for a kid to do. You would have to download it from an off site and likely need a jail break for iphone to do it. But im no expert. Fairly new to the game also (I got sucked in trying to keep in touch with my 8 year old nephew) We just use one of the 3-10 player "realms" through the app. Its like 4$ a month for 3 people. But saves having to deal with everything. If you ever quit the realm you can just back it up to your phone or whatever also.
If you are running win10 from your apple TV--it automatically updates. If not, maybe try in your settings to see if you have automatic updates on but I assume they are. Win10 takes a little bit longer to update things when they come out. You can try to join my server---i always play on it through Win10. Dragonfly: a48161.leet.cc port 48161 and see if it works for you.
