I have been playing minecraft for about a year now but I still don't understand how to use servers. If anyone can help me understand how they work that would be really awesome. Also if any one can tell me how to start one and what whitelisting has to do with it. I will really appreciate the help thanks!

One person hosts a server. Other people can join the game with the host and play alongside them. Hope this helps. Ask me any other questions you have.
