I would post this suggestion on the feedback website but I keep getting an error message. Basically via addons I want to be able to edit a .json file to change recipes for shapeless crafting, the crafting table, and furnace. I don't see how this could be any harder than making users be able to change behaviors of mobs, and it is definitely simpler than adding in redstone and command blocks. The only question is will we be able to change recipe for custom maps and minigames? Or will we have to continue using the testforblocks command which is very rough with custom crafting. Also, I would love the ability to repair two broken tools/armor in pocket ui profile just like you can do it in classic.
ItsRealCrazy is correct, there's no files or functions available yet to change recipes or add recipes. The same goes for weapons and armor. You can only change what happens to the player as they hold a weapon or piece of armor through the player.json.

before i explain this you need to know the 2 types of mods for mcpe
ModPE
and Add-on
ModPE Is a .js language that you can do pretty much anything with add recipe, textures, items
and its only a few word to type
so if you want a Craft recipe that would like this in ModPE
Item.addCraftRecipe(id, amount, damage, [ingredient 1, amount, damage, ingredient 2, amount, damage]);
so if i wanted to add a recipe for diamond i could do this
Item.addCraftRecipe(57, 64, 0, [1,1,0]);
57 is Diamond Block ID, 64 is how many you get for crafting, [1,1,0] is 1 stone to make 64 diamond blocks
now Addons are a bit different, they are mainly used to change items in games instead of
creating new ones entirely, i saw this pose and went into a base Addon i had downloaded to use and i couldn't find anything
related to crafting, but i did see some stuff about having that item drop from a mob once killed, or spawns in a bonus chest
or some other generated buildings.
so if you want some crafting done use ModPE, but Please note: Since ModPE is a .js file it will NOT work with MCPE Vanilla
you will need blocklauncher or MCPE Master both are free from google Play. if you want mods on IOS you have to use Add-ons
hope this helped at least a little bit lol, i am always glad to help, if you need anything else let me know and i will gladly help you out.
I am only 14 but i know alot about programming and all that stuff and i am actually making an Add-on and attempting to add in my
own items and entities. im just hoping to get my self known a bit in the modding community because programming is what i do and i love it.
signing off
