First off, yes, Mario Maker has technically been done before in Minecraft. A number of Mario-based mods have come and gone. But being a player of the official Wii U game, it's not quite the same. So what I had in mind was a Mario Maker mod pack. Basically (if you hadn't guessed already), such a mod pack would better resemble the actual game than we've already seen. Then the next step is just as simple as any other Minecraft map: build, share, download, play.
I did say mod pack, which does mean multiple mods at once, as usual with mod packs. I myself know nothing about coding. But I can take part with textures, and am willing to help with as many projects as go into this. That is, if anyone is interested in helping put this together. If you are interested, let me know what you can do to help.
Such a project will take a lot of work, yes. But I have no doubt it can be done.
Okay, so going back and forth between Mario and PE, I do believe some vanilla blocks will work perfectly fine for this. So we may not need to make too many, but we could try rescripting some. The 2 main blocks I am looking at, though, are ? blocks and the breakable bricks, with the invisible ? blocks as a possible 3rd.
I can contribute, for mcpe, I am thinking that the style of the game is mario maker (title screen, music, level editor, 2d mod, mario skin, SMB3, SMW, and NSMBU theme, website to share lvls in style of mario maker)
In 6 months, if 6 good coders, texturers, and beta testers/debuggers work on this, it is possible, but maybe not as a mod pack, maybe as a .apk blocklauncher addon
