I was wondering now that we have the update 0.7.3 if someone could make the unbelievable shader mod now that we have the moon, sun, sunset, and sunrise I think it could be made I have no clue at all if those missing aesthetics were what was holding mod makers back from making it. I have no clue if that's even relatively close to being right. But I would appreciate it if someone could fill me in if it's even possible to port/make it for MCPE with the permissions from the maker but yeah any answers would be greatly appreciated
First: the 0.7.3 update pretty much screwed up modding. Everything is at least 10x harder than before.
Second: the shaders mod is probably the very last mod that will ever be made for MCPE, if ever. I will now explain why.
Shaders came as a feature of OpenGL ES 2.0. Most games use this Open GL ES version. MCPE, however, still uses OpenGL ES 1.1, which does not support shaders at all. This means that for shaders to be supported, the entire rendering system of MCPE would have to be rewritten around OpenGL ES 2.0, which would require rewriting a HUGE portion of the game code. Since unlike MC PC we Pocket Edition modders cannot decompile the game, we cannot make major edits such as that. There is a lot which can be inferred and determined about how the code works, but this is such a large scale and nontrivial mod that just makes this whole idea what I consider "impossible." To put it into perspective, adding in quarries like in buildcraft would be at least 100x easier than adding this shaders mod.
For one final point, MCPE runs on phones, not gaming computers with tons of graphics memory and power. If the shaders mod were somehow miraculously created for pocket edition, the game would lag constantly and have probably only a quarter of the framerate. Evdn higher end devices like the iPad 4 would struggle with this.
I hope everybody can see why this mod alone will never be created for MCPE.
Thanks for such an in depth answer to my question I appreciate it. I still think even if it is years from now it'll be possible at one point because the way technology is advancing in our generation, soon phones will be as powerful as computers and computers will be something on a completely new level I'm not saying any of this is coming any time soon by any means, but I still think it will be possible at one point I'm sure everybody knows that but yeah not anytime soon. Anyways, thanks again for taking the time to reply to me. I I appreciate it.
