I have tried over and over and mc patcher just makes the game crash. I would be so appreciative if someone could assist me.

You need a decrypted version of minecraft and ldone installed

I installed the iOS Better Minecraft PE mod and When I patch it it Minecraft PE crashes when it gets to the Mojang screen! Please help!

I dunno about being it legal but you can decrypt ur mcpe by downloading mcpe from appcake hipstore zeusmos vshare etc. etc.
U could also get !done from mathocraft

I just wanted the Better Minecraft Pocket Edition because I wanted the smooth lighting. If I try to install smooth lighting on its own Minecraft crashes when The world is saving chunks (90%). Do I need to be decrypted? (Yes I payed for Minecraft Pocket Edition

Yeah u really need to be decrypted for that mod.
I don't really think that's it's illegal to do so, just don't share or upload the any of the file to be safe But personally, i think it's kinda fine as long as u don't

Yes you need to be decrypted. The way I did it I think, is legal. I decrypted the app and then put the decrypted app into AppCakes(because Installous was shut down) downloads folder then installed it through AppCake. I didn't download anything and I bought the app. I'm pretty sure that is all legal. Here is a link to Jocopa3's guide. I'm pretty sure its all on the level:
