OK, so I hope everybody knows about the Multiplayer for Minecraft PE app on the App Store. If not then go download it because I'm guessing Apple will take it down soon unless the developers found a way around the rules. Anyways I was wondering if it is possible to make mods for the Multiplayer app it self so every one could be effected by the mods instead of only the person with the mods. I'm assuming it's not possible because I'm also assuming that the app connects to a sever that would make it impossible. I'm no modder so please let me know if its remotely possible.

They aren't modifying MCPE, so apple wont take it off the appstore
For the modding part, they might be able to change what the server sends to the client (like in PocketMine-MP) but I don't know

I think modifying another app is against the appstore rules, so this probably won't happen.
I know. The app is on the appstore right now. I guess it doesn't modify PE but I was just wondering if its possible to make mods for the multiplayer app like they do with PE.
The mods don't always effect other players. I had a fly in survival mod once but you would be invincible too. (Because you are half in creative with this mod) But when people join my game they can't fly but they are invincible. Other mods, such as the name-tags mod, doesn't effect the other players at all.

I know. I'm asking if making mods for the Multiplayer app it self is possible. Like they do with PocketMine. Whatever you have installed on PocketMine effects all players. You don't even have to jailbreak. It shows up on the local wifi.
We don't modify minecraft in any way and remain inside the sandbox. We comply with all app store terms, as well as legal laws including copyright etc. That's why were are able to be on the app store.

Did you update to version 1.29? It was released yesterday. We're encofrcing updates so if you go into the join screen with the old app version you'll probably see a message telling you to update. If you're hosting using the old version of the app, it won't be listed.
We'll probably add things like capture the flag, PVP, hunger games (random resources spawn at the spawn point or near you - a bit like the book/film!). We'll also be adding kill leaderboards and ranks.
EDIT: V1.29 lets you player over 3G/4G/LTE and also locally using bluetooth.

Yes you can now play using bluetooth without any data connection. If the app detects you don't have wifi on, it will offer you bluetooth (and 3G if you have 3G).

You should add spleef mode (if you have time )
If you don't know what spleef is it is a game mode where the objective is to make break blocks and make people fall

Usually if people can't join it means our app was closed in the background. You can host as normal, wait about 5 minutes, then switch to our app, and see if it shows 'online'. If you send us an email, we can also send you some other things to test.

Well I Cant Right now, But Would A Banner Pop Up When Someone Wanted to Join?
For public servers users can join whenever, without your permission, and you'll hear 'player connected'. This means they have connected in the app. Then they need to join in minecraft, and you'll see '<some players GC nickname> has joined'
For private servers, it works in a similar way, except you choose when you create the server which GC friends you want to allow access to the server. Only those friends will be able to see the server in the join list (under private or friends).

Short answer:
No, you can't make mods, but YES we can!
Long answer:
- You can't make your own mods and add them in - why?
App store apps are subject to a number of restrictions. On major one is that they can't run interpreted or runtime changeable code. What that means in simple terms is you can't download a file, or have the user add a file into the app which contains code that can be run.
I know its against the rules to add it in the app itself but what if I cracked the app and someone made a patcher? Like they do with PE. Would it be possible to make mods that way? That everyone can experience? I'm guessing you could only do it though the server itself but I was thinking that we could change the information that the app sends to the server.

It's not actually against the rules to include it in the app, it's just against the rules for mods to be downloadable and added to the app by the user. If they are precompiled it's all ok
But, if you're going the patching route, in that case why not just patch MC directly? If you're going to end up jailbroken you can just use jailbroken mods to do multiplayer too? I guess you mean you would still have our online community to play with?
Honestly though, the main reason pocketmine and third party servers are only so popular is because you do need a jailbreak to reach them. This really limits the amount of people who will access them. No matter how big the jailbreak community is, the combination of MC players + jailbreakers is not enough. Any jailbroken solution might be cool, but won't do it for the masses.
We're debating about adding access to third party pocketmine servers actually - it may be a bit of bandwidth but its manageable.
(BTW We're actually monitoring cracked versions at the moment and will probably flip the 'kill' switch at some point!)
