Apex City's construction began in 1955, on the site of what used to be Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 50 years after the great fire that consumed the city in 1905. It was planned from the beginning to be a center of art and commerce. Beginning in the 1990s, the main street downtown, called Avenue of the Elements, was taken over by technology firms and largely rebuilt using new construction technology. Today, it remains the biggest tourist attraction in the Midwest.
