Yes, I know that the developers of PE are working very hard to produce the updates. But, I feel that they need to get their priorities straight. For example, why are we adding carpets before even caves? I mean really. Caves are literally the most IMPORTANT thing in Minecraft. And carpets (in my opinion) are useless. Look at MCX360 that has been developed for just as long as PE and it is already PC equivalent to 1.2 official release. What do you guys think about this?
Because adding carpets are easier and it's the little things people. And taking things literally the name is Minecraft. You can craft carpets and you can mine without diamonds. On a realms server I've managed to find over 64 diamonds. More if I mined even moar. Also there's only about 5 Mcpe developers unlike XBox. Stop rushing the devs man. It's mean. Pls stahp mate. BibleThump but seriously understand their situation.

Yes, you know the developers are working very hard to produce updates, but you feel they need to align their priorities with yours? That's a rather condescending attitude to have, and I think you might agree if you thought about it for awhile.
In a broad sense, I paid a one-time fee of $6.99 for MCPE and have not once been asked to pay for additional material, so I'm rather grateful. Different developers on different games have decided to go the freemium route, and I like that the conversation isn't whether or not $.99 is worth a Breeding Expansion or new Crafting Pack.
But different strokes for different folks. I enjoy single player, vanilla, survival Minecraft, I like the mobility of Pocket Edition, and after a few hundred hours of play time I've been so busy manipulating one small corner that I don't even know what the other side of the map looks like. So yeah, carpets do nothing for me, but breeding opens up a lot, and I giggled with joy at coal blocks.
As many people have stated in the past, MCPE is coded in C++ with some Objective-C mixed in. This is a huge leap away from the normal java based PC version since java runs smoother on PC's. Due to the fact that it doesn't run on mobile devices (yet) this makes things harder for the devs when it comes to making it run smoother for the mobile platform. The game is also still in alpha, unlike the PC version which is in Beta. There is also the fact that the devs have the PC and XBOX versions to worry about, and the upcoming Playstation version which doesn't leave them much time for the PE version. As ZombieRain has stated, just be thankful that you only paid $7 for it and are getting free content updates and such.
Caves will be very hard for them at the moment because of the limited world space. And the carpet is way smaller and easier then caves. So don't expect caves until infinite worlds are out. And infinite worlds would be very very very hard for them since it is on mobile. So don't expect caves for a while and like dlcoates1 said they have the PC, XBOX and PS3 versions to worry about because they are more popular and they try to keep them Minecraft players playing.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Infinite worlds and caves are confirmed for the next update 0.9.0
Plus, remember this a device your talking about, not some fast, infinite battery life-source, that will never lag for one second. Especially, for the iPhone 3GS. . Please, be respectful for to Mojang as much as you know how much you would love MC:PE to have many feature as MC:PC. Stay calm and patient. It isn't easy at all.
Infinite worlds and caves are confirmed for the next update 0.9.0
Infinite worlds and caves are confirmed for THE 0.9.0 update, but since we're at 0.8.1, there are conceivably 8 other updates BEFORE 0.9.0.
At 3 months an update... math.
And since I come from an iOS perspective, if, in order to implement infinite worlds, MCPE has to piggyback iOS 7.0 or better, the game will automatically dump everything older than an iPhone 4 or 5th Gen iPod Touch, and possibly whatever the Android equivalent is.
I know that in order to advance some have to be left behind, but I prefer the game be accessible to the most amount of people possible *shrug*
Honestly, we can't just expect the devs to just add all of these features straight into MCPE, it's really really hard to do so as both the MCPE and MCPC versions are coded differently and if they were to add a bunch of PC stuff into MCPE, it would be slightly different :/ Just keep in mind that MCPE will get there one day
Infinite worlds and caves are confirmed for the next update 0.9.0
Keep in mind that this feature will not be available on all devices. Especially slower devices like 2nd and 3rd gen iOS devices, the Android Galaxy S1, as well as others. You would need something newer such as the iPhone 5s, 5th or 6th gen iPod touch, iPad 2, Galaxy S3 or S4, etc. in order to run it at it's full potential.

You are so ungrateful. You try making the game. It's not that easy. You kids are just a bunch of ungrateful idiots. You don't even know what coding language they use to make the game. You have no right to say anything. They have worked hard, with college and etc. They have a life you know. They probably have a family to take care of and ungrateful kids like you complaining all the time.
This is the most true thing I've seen all day. Well said.

Have to agree hands down. I am also going into coding and game development. Think it's easy? Try having to learn about 10 different types of code, debugging 40k+ lines of it for one error, etc. You need good eyes, extreme patience, and nerves of steel to be able to sit there for hours on end working on this stuff.

Good to know that I'l still be able to enjoy MCPE for a little while longer!
0.9.0 is the next update
There is a total of 7 guys working on MCPE actually. Johan and Tom are just the main devs.
Erhm.. Those half of 4j studios are also working on Ps3.. Xbox one.. Ps4...
