If you're on an Android tablet, the "Pause" button is the same as the "Back" button. It's the one on the bottom of the tablet that looks like a U-shaped arrow. I had the same issue when I got my Android phone a while back.
MCPE has a pause button??!! If you are thinking of the menu button (where you go to options in-game) that is not a pause button.... It doesn't stop the MC world. Please correct me if I am wrong, as for I play on IOS (iPad 2) not android.

SMH... LOL. Look around much? Unless this has been changed the back button on android IS NOT the pause menu if you push the back button while the game looks paused you can clearly still see the day/night cycle....
