"It's not what your country can do for you, it's what you can do for this country."
On the PC version, to start a farm, you convert dirt to farmland with a hoe, then collect seeds from tall grass, and then finally right-click them onto farmland to plant them. Within (Minecraft) days, you'll have wheat, which can be used to make bread to satisfy in-game hunger.
As neither hunger, bread, wheat, tall grass, hoes nor farmland are implemented, it'll be a while before this comes to PE.
I usually start by planting 10-12 wheat seeds outside, then moving them into a subterranean 9 x 9 block room water in the middle and torches (which are then replaced with glowstones in the ceiling). I stopped planting sugarcane inside, but I'll usually plant 5-10 by the nearest river. And mushrooms, I carve out 12 block chambers for each color mushroom when I find some because mushroom stew is awesome.
I also now raise chickens if I can't find a skeleton spawner because my games are hardcore and I can't be bothered with hunting skeletons. Mostly because if you're looking for them, you'll encounter everything but.
EDIT: Sorry folks, I didn't notice this was "Pocket Edition"
all tho there are no seeds you can still get tilled ground in minecraft pocket edition by either Hex Editor or an app called PocketInvEditor. No hoe tho :l but the tilled dirt works like normal like if u jump on it, it with turn to regular dirt if u mine it it turns to dirt and if u get water near in it will become darker! its cool but no uses
I'm a wheat farmer on pc generally.
Definitely! Though I like Melon farming as well. Cause they're hard to get at the start.
THEN, you get a diamond hoe and enchant it with fire aspect...
Nah, but for real, a hoe, with looting III
Sugarcane, cactus, mushroom, FLOWERS and wool
Ha take that
How do you make a wool farm?

They do, and I think mushrooms grow as well. I'm not very good at farming, so I don't really know. Check out the Wiki for more information.

Melons! Melons! Melons! Whenever I start a new farm, I get MELONS first
