Okay so I had this problem in the PS3 Edition where animals would glitch over and through fences. Has anyone had this problem in this version? If so - what's a good way around it?

The problem with animals going through fences is that they push eachother, and the ones being pushed phase through. But this is only an illusion and after a couple of seconds they go back to place because the original animal is still inside.
this can be a problem with animals that get attacked by other creatures (chickens/ocelots, sheep/wolves) but if you build where no predators spawn animals will phase back into their pens.
My main base is in the border of a plains biome next to a desert, and my animals are fenced in the desert because no wolves or ocelots spawn there ever.
Yes, this definitely happens on the PS4 version. Have a fenced in area with some rambunctious cows that Houdini themselves out of the pen. A nice smack teleports them back in.
I *think* the animal problem is mostly a CPU bottleneck. The PS4/XB1 have much, much better GPUs, more/faster memory, and the CPUs provide bigger memory bandwidth, but the CPUs are still super, super weak.
fences need to be 20x20 (large) i do believe, if much smaller( how much smaller you ask, inhave no idea) they will spawn out... ever since I made my fence bigger i dont have this problem now. Mine is 18x18 i believe.... My 2 cents
I have never gotten the animals to stay in pens. I've tried doubling up the fences, keeping it 10x10, but they always manage to get out. I've given up hope on animal husbandry in Minecraft, frankly.
Okay. I tried pits, I tried 20x20, I tried 10x10, I tried double high and double wide fences. The animals just glitch into the fences or the walls of the pit and disappear. I hope this gets fixed in an update.
i dug down one block in a 20x20 pen, i put a fence around it so they cant jump up or other animals fall in, now they dont phase threw the fence and i havent seen any sheep disappear yet . i think im gonna do that for the other animals as well
No luck again even with all of the tips about fence sizes and enclosure types, more worryingly I just tried to get another sheep and the "maximum number of bred animals has been reached" message popped up. That means all of the animals that glitched away are still out there wandering and I can't have any more animals unless they are killed.. ???
Nah that's another part of our minecraft struggle, Animals that spawn trapped (like on the side of mountains or holes) count as if they were yours so they count towards the animal limit.
I built a fence 2 high about 5x5 with a roof of half slabs. The 2 cows I put in there as a test have lasted through multiple saves, turn off PS4 and restart.
If an animal can not travel more than 20 blocks in one direction they will not despawn. If you explore the world and have lots of extreme hills then animals will spawn on the cliffs and not despawn. That was a problem with the old consoles and may still be an issue plus the other glitches that are happening.
If you have a fenced in grass area with sheep wolves can still spawn inside the fenced area and will kill your sheep. On the old consoles the best way to deal with that was to breed dogs. That seemed to make wolf spawning less likely. I would usually keep 12 dogs in 3 groups of 4 at several locations including around the sheep pen.

I hope this helps happy crafting.
For some ungodly reason, it did not. All this powerful hardware not being used..
Yes it's a big joke that all we got was bigger maps lol

My knowledge of hardware is limited, though.
