While I'm glad your first mod wasn't another of the billions of new ore mods, I honestly think you should have considered game-play a bit more. Being able to make lights out of dirt makes surviving the first night way too easy and removes the fun element of knowing you either need coal or charcoal before it gets dark, and the fear factor that comes in to play when the sun sets and you have no light source.
Perhaps if the recipe were something more like 8 cobble around 1 flint, it would be more balanced. As for the texture, I don't think it should be anything pretty, as this is a cheap light source, and not something you'd want to use for everything (otherwise it would be even more over-powered.)
Again, I commend you for making something different, and I hope you go on to create more mods. I like your outside-the-box thinking, and we need more mod authors who can do that. Good luck
Meh. Seems a bit over powered. Being able to summon light out of dirt goes a little bit out of the fantasy/scientific bounds of Minecraft. Also, dumb question, but what is a ChewTore?
Out of torches? To much dirt in your inventory? Well this is the mod for you!
This mod adds a new block called Chewtore.
The crafting recipe for Chewtore is:
x x
x x
x = Dirt
