In this thread I will be chronicling my adventures on RetroMc. I plan for my first journey to be from the start of the +X highway, all the way to the end of the highway at the server's world border at 30k. I will be posting updates around every 5000 blocks or so. There are many things to find on this server, with interesting histories, so I hope you can have fun with me as your guide. (I meant to put this in discussion, sorry if its off topic)
Note of past
There is one thing, however, I have traveled this road before, so in some posts I might be recalling my past adventure, while others not. I will be posting screenshots of interesting things upon the road, but don't expect every build and town to be mentioned. In truth this only applies to the first ~10k of travel, due to builds getting scarce, so everything after 10k will most likely be marked. For those things under 10k, travel the road yourself.
Why this server?
Though there are many beta servers to explore (which you should still check out), I have picked RetroMc for a couple reasons. First being I am most familiar with this server and its history, you can only be super active on one or two servers. My second reason is that simply, RetroMc is old, the map is 7-8 years old. This server has lots of builds, histories, and stories that not a lot of other servers have. Maybe inactive compared to other servers of the niche, RetroMc has a rich history of excellent builders (we'll get to those some day), factions, towns, and more.
RetroMc itself
RetroMc is a beta 1.7.3 towny server running on the IP: mc.retromc.org. This server has an amazing and friendly staff, amazing builds, and nice players. The server name is from 2014, but the current map from 2017 or 2018. There are cities to join ran by experienced players, or small towns started by brand new players.* Its calm, so have fun if you join.
*The server is in a bit of a decaying period, so these might be hard to find
Yesterday I started my Journey at the Highway's start at around x100. As expected, there were dozens of signs from the past 7 years, all around a house of furnaces made by the highway's creator, GenghisDingus, who made the road some time in 2017-2018. I am not sure of the date because the servers dating tool was implemented after the road was built. There exists a small town around the start, as seen in the picture.
1k Milestone
The second picture is at the first main milestone of the road. Here there are dozens of signs, which becomes rare later on. There also exists some sort of town in the distance, though I have never visited it. Strangely, I though I left a sign at this milestone, but I didn't, which I feel about many other landmarks, but I'll leave that out. There were many, many houses and builds along the 1000 blocks of road, but none were too interesting.
First town of Interest
This next image is of another town, but this one is from June of 2018, I think. It is very old but well-built for its time. I took this picture to show off most of the town in one screenshot. It shows off its alley, courtyard, and wall. Unfortunately, I missed the sign area, which had dozen or so signs. Sadly, elsewhere in the town, there were signs speaking of the towns decline and death, a story all too common on RetroMc.
Dog
I found a dog, and tamed it with some bones I found, hopefully he makes it to 30k with me, mobs are more common these days.
Deviation
I reached Chugga Town after more old builds on the roadside and found the gate in the screenshot. As also seen, the road seemingly ends here, but it doesn't. Unseen, a sign says to follow a gravel path to reach the road again. As having traveled this road in the past, I knew the path did continue from here that reconnected with the highway, but why the road was split, I never found out. At the other side of the road, there is a sign that says 'those who found their way, put a sign' or something similar. that sign is in the distance of the second screenshot.
In this first screenshot, there is a basic view of what the side of the road can look like at times.
Death
After only a couple thousand blocks, my dog drowned under the bridge of Yeetmaster's road stop. Keep note of that name, he was a traveler we will be acquainted with soon enough.
An amazing build
I lied, I have traveled this road thrice, and this is where I tapered of my first time in August of 2024. I saw from a sign a few blocks before that this was called 'Four thousand Town', and yes, at this point I am 4k out. It is small compared to some other build on the server.
Another traveler to know
In this screenshot, another player we will come to know makes their first appearance that isn't just at a milestone. I think they end up lighting the road at some point. You can also see some dates that are cool. They are MapleBaconator. They are at the 5k milestone.
5k reached!
An image of the 5k milestone. It isn't great, but its historical. Here you can see a sign from the road's maker, either dated to the time they reached building the road, or a travel, which I'm not sure of. You can see the signs left by travelers over the years, and my sign.
The road from 5k-6k was incredibly lonely. There was a lack of interesting builds, it mostly consisted of wilderness for this stretch, and this remains consistent throughout the 5k journey. The milestone itself was just a few signs, and to the right of where the picture was taken, there was a small patch of trees meant to be harvested. They were old, so I didn't.
Sign Wall (No screenshot)
At around 6600 there was a sign wall so filled with signs that it was dug downwards to expand, and to not grief. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to leave a sign here, but this time I had, so if you ever travel this road, expect to find my sign.
7000 Milestone
Under a depressing mountain or hill, surrounded by wilderness and small dugouts, 7000 was reached. Unless those signs in front of me are for the milestone, which I have no way of telling, then 7000 was completely unmarked. So I decided to start a marker there, which yeah is pretty measly, only one sign, so I think if I do make more milestones, I'll actually attempt some kind of build or something.
Sign stop
I think at like x7784, there was this random patch of signs that were seemingly unimportant, except that it had a sign from yeetmaster3000, and other notable travelers. We have already passed a few of his signs, which for some reason, go in and out of logblock records.
8000 Milestone (No Screenshot)
Again, surrounded by untapped wilderness, the 8000 milestone was a few signs, somehow less significant than the sign stop 300 blocks back.
Mob Spawner!
I just wanted a fishing rod, so I went in a nearby cave, and I heard spiders, dug to them, and lo and behold, a spawner! All the loot it had was a saddle, but still a good find, and so close to the highway! Stop and leave a sign if you ever visit!
Cozy Inn (No screenshot)
Only after one hundred more blocks, I found an inn dug into the side of the hill the road went through. Its very well made, I recommend you leave a sign.
No 9000 milestone
Yeah, from what I recall no 9000 milestone exists, and I was so focused on getting to 10k that I forgot to even take a screenshot or leave a sign. I won't make a mistake like that again.
10000 Milestone
One may have been under the assumption that because signs were scarce during the 5 other milestones of this trip, that the 10k milestone would feature less signs than any other. No, turns out people like saving their signs for the big ones. There were so many signs to look at here, from server friends, myself, and other travelers who consistently leave signs, that it was impossible to see them all. There were trees here for wood, something to be expected for even small landmarks, and overall, it was just a nice spot. you could read the journeys people had on some of these signs, and you could see how old the road truly was, and it's things like these that makes traveling this road worth it. Hope to see some of your signs here at some point.
Most of this section of the highway was completely empty, like with the past 5000 blocks. However, I was filled with anticipation for what lay at 15k, which is a capture of this server's greatness. The emptiness is really boring, but there are always small things to keep me entertained. So here we go!
Orknarok_666's castle
Made by the most active player in the server's history, who has 6000 hours on it. I remember this build from my past journey, and its still cool. I tried to capture most of the build in the screenshot, but there are some rooms and ramparts to explore.
Hidey Hole
As seen on the signs, right before 11k, there is a little hidey hole from 2019. There are some signs to see inside, left by past travelers.
11000 Milestone
Like most insignificant milestones, this one only has a couple signs. But that's not why this screenshot is cool. Those lights on the road were created by MapleBaconator, and they've been going since 10k, maybe more.
Unfinished castle
Okay I sort of lied. The 10-15k journey has more stuff than the 5-10k journey, with the former having interesting stuff, and the latter ratholes and noob huts. Here we can see some old castle in the distance, I don't even think its claimed.
First town in Forever
This was a town I missed on my last journey, which was shame, its a cool town. Also sorry for the bad screenshot, I don't know why I stood next to a tree. Anyway, this town was a 2019 town, and it hasn't been touched, other than by markers, in 6 years. It's a sad fate that befell this and every other town, inactive and forgotten. This town is also notable because a lot of the towns made at this time period were made only a few thousand blocks from spawn, and that was common until like 2020. People must have traveled the roads more back then, and highway roads are really rare because now people just use /wild to get from spawn. In every sense, this town is a relic.
One aspect about these next screenshots is that I was in a conversation with Spencer199, and Illegal_illusen. So those messages that I and they sent were to each other.
Ancient Manor & Railway
A railway had been made on the highway, to where you'll see soon, and it goes Infront of this ancient manor. I think it predates the highway, or it could be as old, I'm not sure. Again, it's well-built for the time period and version, and I personally really like the block pallet of it. There are some signs to see, so if you come here, leave one.
Avalon Rail station
Only a few hundred blocks from its start, which was right behind my screenshot, this little blessing has ended. I went up a little side road to this huge build, to see it claimed by one of, if not the most well-made towns on the server, Avalon. I am a member of this town, but that doesn't mean I broke anything. Those two flags are of Avalon (left) and the Winfield concord (right). The latter is an organization, or faction between towns. They have made a huge trans server railroad for all to use. It is over 70k blocks long (I couldn't find an exact number, so this is an estimate). There was a small sign board farther up and back on the main road.
Little tree farm
Just a small roadside farm, had some signs, and it was cool. Sorry for the curse. It was a rare underground build, cut into the many mountains the highway goes through.
Another little town
Before 13k, a small town appeared, and it had a sign board, so of course I had to capture it. Shows off the weird tall build a bit, don't know what it was, but you can also see a nice little house in the background with a path.
13000 Milestone
or should I say lack of it. One of the many rare milestones with nothing to mark them. Unfortunately, I didn't place a sign here, (i think) again showing off how desolate the road can be.
This part will be short, so I'll be sure to talk a good bit.
14000 Milestone
I guess there was nothing for 1000 blocks, so you're already at 14k! Three different signs, from two different years, under a hill, how fun. Yeah nothing too special here, except maybe for one player. NurdyChicken42 has been part of this journey for over 10000 blocks at this point, or so I believe. He has left some. . . interesting signs over the roads course, and he made a house at some point too. It's always nice to see a sign from someone who traveled the road's entirety, or close to it, like myself, even if they were a little weird.
The crafting table land
Made by GenghisDingus in 2022 or something, this island is completely replaced by crafting tables, and the trees are replaced by wool and netherack. Must have been an expensive project, due to all the wood and wool. This was also made in, what from I've heard, a dead era of the server. I don't know if this is true. No matter what, its a cool idea and build.
Underground shop
Also, in the final stretch to halfway, there exists a little shop in the wall. It's a pretty little shop full of useful things, though now they are all sold out, I think. I think it sells armor, but I didn't stick around too long. This shop is unfinished, as told by the sign and shown by the wool in the back. It won't ever be finished, because I think the shop is almost 5 years old.
After this, we go to one of the coolest towns on the server, the halfway point, SOUTHGUARD
SouthGuard was founded by Genghis Dingus in 2019 at 15k, and it is the largest town on the road. It is surrounded by a huge wall of cobblestone and has multiple amazing builds and such. Unfortunately, the original sign wall has been claimed, so I couldn't place one on the wall, but I placed one on the road before the claim.
Town today
Other than its founding, I no zero of the town's history, which isn't unlikely. Only so many towns can be recorded on the wiki, and some we just have no information on. Of course, the town is long dead, but it still is very cool.
Unfortunately, I had to keep moving, and I saw really good builds on the way put. A good chunk of them were Asian themed. I also am pretty sure the city is around 410 blocks long. I left a sign to say goodbye to the bastion of greatness, and I moved on.
This part of the highway was pretty damn boring. There were not that many builds, I don't think there were any towns even near the highway. Most if not all the builds that were there were built by Genghis Dingus. Some are not interesting, while some are insanely cool.
Among Us Jingle
Right outside that tunnel, there was a pressure plate, red stone and jukeboxes. I walked on the pressure plate, did as a sign bid to keep walking, and I heard the Among us jingle. It was out of tune and not always prefect, but it was still a cool and obviously dedicated project. Some people complained about it, but none of those ended up in the screenshot.
The Original Highway Ends
After the point in the screenshot, the highway takes on many contributors, builders, and extenders. The highway varies in quality after this point, which is why the highway's original builder came back a couple months later and fixed it, which is why there are sometimes two alternate highway paths.
Brick Pyramid
I think at 16000, at least around there, GenghisDingus built a Infdev brick pyramid. It is pretty damn large. I think the admin shop sells bricks, so that explains how such a rare resource was used in mass.
Example of two roads
Simple screenshot of the two roads, and how the road was improved afterward.
17000 Milestone
This minor milestone has quite a lot of signs for it being a minor stop.
Another build made by Genghis Dingus, this is one of the lamer ones. Still kind of cool.
Wolves
After about 10000 blocks, I finally managed to tame more wolves. Good thing I kept my bones! I hope to bring both to 30k and sadly leave them there forever. Still a lucky find.
18000 Milestone
Just a sad sign with dogs.
+XX Highway's Creator signs
At some point, I forgot where, Impassive_Tomb left a sign saying here they ended the road. I guess at some point they logged back onto see the road continued. I think the strangest thing is the backlash part. I guess people got made at them back in 2019 for extending the road, maybe without consent? I wasn't there, and never asked about it before.
19000 Milestone
I guess officolo started a lot of minor milestones when they came. I think they started more than the two.
A little wooden house made just before 20k, you can actually see the milestone through the doorway. Though I didn't need it, in the servers modern day where mobs are common and dangerous, I could see it being useful.
20000 Milestone
Honestly less impressed with this one, its just a bunch of signs with nothing else around it. But hey, what can you do? I also have to leave on of the dogs. Yes, i know, very tragic. He got mauled by a spider, and I don't want him to die from a road accident. He will be missed. After this, its to 25k.
Hello Fellow Crafters,i was wondering that your server(i thinks somebodys server)have a old texture pack back from beta 1.3 since the 1.14 texture update
do you remember the old seeds in minecraft, like 999 that spawns you in a village or 404.its pretty nostalgic that minecraft changed alot of some updates and i played since 2018 since the texture update.reply to me what are your old builds look like:).
Assuming the world is 60k square if road starts at centre then you coulda turned left or right at current 30k limit, and by going round the border edge could have 200k comfortably! :-)
I am curious what you see at the end when you reach the 30k limit; presumably just some sort of solid impassable "face" ...
(This is the second iteration; the forum broke for me somehow)
The first town in a while
Only a couple hundred blocks away from 20k, I saw a huge glass spire belonging to the village Terraville. It is a very good build, and it is surrounded by a well-made town. The highway leading up to the town was also improved, which is a nice touch. I decided to include three pictures of the town. One front, one middle, and one from the back.
21000 Milestone
As suspected, officolo had marked more milestones than I had seen. It is a shame though, because if more people traveled this road, I think even small stops like this would have more signs, or at least a build.
Dog over the desert
For some reason I can't remember, I decided to go off the road a little bit on the desert. I thought a picture of it would be cool, so I took one. However, if you look to the side where the road is, you can see it cuts into the landscape. The road is like this from spawn to thew end. It goes to show the creators of the road cared about being functional, and good looking.
More posts like this of survival on servers would be fun. The other threads are mostly single-player.
"'Tis foolishness! If all were so easy, why, none would suffer in this world!"
If you're having performance concerns with Minecraft, I hope this may prove useful.
A retrospective of the most important game to me (or, a try to stay awake while I never stop talking about something challenge).
Yeah, that would be cool, maybe that could be something to do at some point.
Perhaps there should have been a rule; anyone who reaches the end of the road must extend it by 1000 blocks.
MC things to do ...
1) Update Mesa Base
2) Build a Sphinx at the Desert Base
3) Dolphin Statue
4) Build a base in The End
Mintutor now works in 1.13!
MrKite & Mc_Etlam ... I salute you!

We will just have to wait and see, won't we? Also, the map is a circle.
