So once I get a PC, I'd like to start a Minecraft survival world that starts from the earliest versions, and keeps updating up to 1.20, kinda like Evolution SMP. Now, I have a few questions:
• What is the earliest version that I can play in that has survival mode?
• Will updating cause chunk errors or other problems?
• I'd like to make a texture pack that includes some quality of life changes (like Vanilla Tweaks), such as lower fire, no pumpkin overlays, trasparent GUIs etc... Can I make this pack compatible with everything or do I need to manually make a version for every update?
• Like with 1.14's god armor (that has every type of protection at once), 1.8's craftable gapples, and the easier to get netherite armor in versions prior to1.20, is there any other, is there any other specific version that has a glitch or exploit that can act advantage for the player? This includes dupes, crafting recipes that were omitted from further versions, or anything else.
1. I'm not sure of the earliest version you can play in. I'd basically just look up the earliest version accessible via the launcher and try starting from there maybe?
2. Updating can cause "issues", but you shouldn't have "errors" as far as I know? Like older versions will see results of terrain generation changes. Very old ones had a sea level one block higher or lower, for example. Terrain generation shifts might cause "chunk walls" but these aren't chunk errors, per se.
3. Definitely going to need to adjust it a lot. Texture packs/resource packs changed way too much over time.
4. I'm sure there's a lot of things that changes made less accessible in later versions, and might be worth doing before that point. Far too many to begin to name, but I also don't know much about any in particular.
For #4, you could put both Mending and Infinity on a bow prior to 1.11.1, so that might be worth knowing in case you want an OP bow. After that version, the two enchantments became mutually exclusive even with an anvil, so it's no longer possible to put them together.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
LP series? Not my style! Video series? Closer, but not quite. Survival journal, maybe? That's better. Now in Season 4 of the Legends of Quintropolis Journal (<< click to view)!! World download and more can be found there.
I started my world maybe in beta 1.3 (for sure it was before 1.8) back in 2010 and I kept updating it until release 1.19, in the meanwhile using MCEdit multiple times to make some big changes. I didn't lost any chuck, and blocks where mostly kept as they were, but the following happened every now and then:
Ender chests losing their content
Fences and panes not connecting, turning into single pole-like fences and panes.
Double chests disconnecting, turning into single chests close to each other which still kept their content
Animals kept in pens disappearing
Spawners losing their assigned monster, turning them into default pig spawners
Loot chests being empty
... and stuff like that. Making backups before each update, at least, is highly recommended.

I can't answer them all, but I can answer some.
