Hi, i've been thinking about creating a survival world a dedicate a considerable amount of time on it. But im not sure what version choose from. i dont want to play with mods, only vanilla.
I was thinking between 1.7.2 and 1.8.x
if you have a recommendation for me please comment.
Some like Release 1.8 have the Ocean Monument or armour stands and tweaks that may be appealing, others like 1.2 or 1.3 had Jungles/Villager trading, the Desert Temple, the old creative mode/new creative mode with tabs for example.
Some features can really change the game for whether certain blocks sure, but also the way the game feels like swimming, sprinting, how much the game uses of RAM, animations, mob AI, stuff like that.
It's why I think quality of life updates can be important and think 1.15 wasn't a bad update, sure it had bees but I cared for the tweaks more than I did just bees.
If fine with mods have mods that add features that come close to them (blocks, ones that remove hunger, stuff like that).
Some old versions like when I play 1.2.5 feel old enough of mob AI to be old school, hunger is slower to deplete (as far as I remember), animations are different too.
I kind of go for a 1.13+ if I care about swimming, 1.2.5 for an old enough feel but don't want to go too far back into Beta versions and anything in-between it really depends.
Mods usually determine what I want as I usually only care about Redstone blocks or hoppers for 1.5+ Release versions usually as I like to have them. Mods with the feel of the older versions does enough to convince me to play that far back.

There's no doubt about it: the latest version of Minecraft is the best version to play. It's packed with all the newest features, content, and gameplay mechanics, making it the most fun and engaging version of the game yet. Plus, it includes vital bug fixes and performance improvements that make the game run smoothly and efficiently. And with compatibility with the latest hardware and software, the latest version of Minecraft is more immersive and visually impressive than ever before. So why not upgrade to the latest version and experience the best that Minecraft has to offer?

No way. It is, in my opinion, the least engaging version of Minecraft to play. version 1.0-1.6.4 are the best game versions because you still have to mine and craft. Modern versions are not about mining or crafting in any way, they are simply about building automatic farms. Current versions are not for survival. Not to mention, modern versions of Minecraft are the least optimized versions of the game ever. I would say that the current release is the worst version of Minecraft ever. OP, I recommend 1.0-1.6.

You'd have to go back further than 1.6.4 to find a version where mining is a necessity. Villager trading has existed since 1.3.1

For such a tight range of choices and on vanilla, it's hard to say. 1.7.4 fixed some issue but also changed how it works, maybe .3? I barely remember ten years down the road.

There are still some cases where mining is necessary; while you can rename an item and repair it indefinitely since it prevents the prior work penalty from increasing (fixed at 2 levels) it costs way more to repair anything since you must pay for both the amount of durability restored and the enchantments - a diamond pickaxe with only Efficiency V and Unbreaking III already costs 33 levels to repair with a full durability sacrifice (17 levels for the repair itself plus 5 for Efficiency V, 6 for Unbreaking III, 3 for having 2 enchantments, and 2 for the prior work penalty. For comparison, this is the same cost to repair any item for the final time since 1.8; 2 levels for the actual repair plus a prior work penalty of 31, which will increase to 63).
If you add Fortune III it is now only possible to repair it with a single diamond at a time for 37 levels, or a damaged sacrifice (a full durability sacrifice would cost 48 levels, thus the cost must be lowered by 9 levels or about half durability), but then you'd need some way to wear it down (in the case of my sword, Sharpness V, Knockback II, Unbreaking III, a full-durability sacrifice repair costs 40 levels, one more than the maximum so I only need to wear it down to 1512 durability, 1374 for an optimal repair (0 durability left on the target, in practice it will be 20-30), which costs 38 levels and restores full durability due to the 12% repair bonus (187 durability for diamond); to do so I breed chickens; otherwise, it can be repaired with 2 diamonds at a time for 35 levels).

I'd say check the wikis ( https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Java_Edition_version_history ) to see what content is available and see which sounds the most appealing to experience and which you can play without.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
