had full netherite gear and was pillaring up out of a bastion, then i randomly get 1 tapped with no death message and dying from what it looks to be fire/lava, even though i wasn’t touching either, this was not a lag spike as i was on the world with a few other friends and none of them were experiencing lag, in addition there were no excess structures loaded in the chunks surrounding me, just a treasure room bastion
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
You can have lag that isn't framerate lag, by the way. TPS lag is the kind of lag where the world itself slows down (food takes longer to eat, crops take longer to grow, etc). When there's that kind of lag, the server is most susceptible to things like rubber banding and messing up player data. I've fallen off cliffs, into holes, had mobs run up to me at lightning speed (as the server tries to catch up) and land like ten hits on me before I even notice, and so on; I've seen it claim quite a few lives.
