Hello! I had an idea to load in the farlands in a 1.7.3 world of minecraft and then update that world to the latest version and then live there but I want to load in as much of the far lands as possible to cover my render distance in the modern version and hopefully a lot more so that it won't look weird. Anyone know any good tricks to load chunks as fast as possible in beta 1.7 or do I just have to tediously walk around?

I don't know of any b1.7 land generators out there, so my best advice would be to max out your render distance and install single-player cheats for flying abilities to generate as many chunks as you can.

I play in the long-term, where most of my projects take a long time:
End Mining Project (Mine the entire End): 6 months
2km Long Overworld Rail From Spawn to Base: 2 months
Base Expansion Project: 1-2 months (estimate) (ongoing)
