Basically what it says on the tin. Iron golem farm is underground, so wondering the radius of the box i'll have to build around it to get the cats to stop spawning and wandering around my base. TIA if anyone has this info!
The size of a village is at least 32 blocks around the center, which in your case should be the beds in your iron farm unless you have a villager breeder or one of the villagers managed to claim your bed. It will be more than 32 blocks if there are villager beds further out.
I don't know much about village mechanics but it seems quite likely that the vertical range is much smaller, like 7-8 blocks above or below the center.
If you breed 10 cats and lock them up in or next to the iron farm that should fill up the mob cap for cats and you should avoid having loose cats wandering around.

The problem is that the cats will take up the 'gaurdian cap' and no golems will spawn if there are cats roaming about. and ive been told that cats will pretty much spawn on anything and everything. glass, carpet. x.x so i figure'd i'd find their spawn range and put water down in that range and make something to murder them as they spawn for string, lol.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I believe they wouldn’t spawn. From my understanding, they only spawn on initial generation of a “natural” village. From what I’ve tested, they haven’t spawned when I made my own village. But then, that’s just me.

they spawn in any 'village' setup. and my iron golem farm is at the bedrock level... and i literally have about 100 cats tamed about my base, lol. and they.wont.stopppppp. x.x upside, free string \o/

I built a small villager breeder to populate a trading hall and later an Iron farm.. Only 6 beds there but cats are now spawning in my base area. Did not realize they would interfere with a Golem farm. I've tamed a couple and like them about but will have to think on this.
They spawn all the way to the village border, perhaps with a bias towards the center or wherever the villagers are. That was mentioned earlier in the thread. If all else fails, you could just put a few rings of water flows that lead all the way to your golem killing chute to wash them into the lava--if they still spawn, at least they'll get washed away relatively quickly.
Instead of just one massive set of water rings, perhaps you may wish to break them up into smaller sections so that they get handled quickly instead of hogging up cap space while floating on down the river. (to a blazin' hideaway).

A quick fix was to drop the floor below the iron farm 1 level at a time until they stopped spawning which seems to have done the trick up to now. Phew! Although I forget how low the floow is now But it works which is all that matters.
If I get any more spawning I'll get drastic and do a redesign It shouldn't take too long to move things around.

The Wiki just says they spawn in villages.

Just testing.
