So i've created this slime farm that has 3 layers above what you can see in the pic, the spawning platforms are 10 by 10 and i believe they can spawn on redstone lamps and redstone blocks. its below y = 40 and in a slime chunk. The farm should work fine, but its very rare if a slime ever spawns and idk what the problem is. It was built in the middle of a ravine, but most of the outside is lit up. I afk about 24 blocks away with an auto fisher. So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it, i would love to know. I know that within 128 blocks things need to be spawn proofed, so anything else would help. I also would like to know how to build a swamp slime farm in case the slime chunk one never works.
The fifth line of your debug screen shows 70 entities (mobs, including animals, minecarts etc) which just so happens to be the hostile mob cap, so, unless you have a cow farm with 70 cows up above somewhere, I would suggest making sure that you really have spawn proofed everything within 128 blocks (of your AFK spot.)
If those aren't hostile mobs you could try removing all blocks in that chunk above your slime farm, that is supposed to increase the spawn rate.
When I tested it on a mobless superflat I tried the worst and best case scenarios, when I had a spawning floor at Y = 2 or so it was packed like the dance floor at a rave, when I replaced it with a platform at Y = 255 there were never more than 15 mobs at a time, I wasn't killing them off, they were just despawning as fast as they spawned.
If you build one in a swamp you could use the same design, just at Y between 51 and 69 and dark, and be prepared for other mobs.
In the swamp you'll be getting the most slimes at full moon (and none at new moon).
I do have a very large sheep and cow farm at my house, and should i remove more blocks (in the pic im at the highest level) above the highest level, and if so, should i remove them to the surface or not that much. Lastly, should i remove some of my sheep, and are they too close to the farm. also, is there some way to make sure you have mob proofed everything within the 128 block range.
Could you maybe link a good vid or site that shows how to make the swamp farm too, you dont need to, but i just want to make sure im not screwing something up when i build it.
Also sorry the f3 takes up most of the screen, if its a problem ill fix it and send new pics.
Cows and sheep aren't a problem, only hostile mobs.
I'm sorry if I confused you by only mentioning cows and not adding "or similar".
It seems that you do indeed have about 70 cows and sheep, however the screenshot from your cow/sheep farm shows 159 total entities so the question remains, what are the other 88 entities that aren't in your field of view?
Your second screenshot is quite far away from the slime farm so it is quite possible that the debug screen is showing hostile mobs that are more than 128 blocks from your slime farm AFK spot and therefore aren't a problem, but it would be nice to know.
Most likely the 70 entities shown at the slime farm are the cows and sheep and you have succeeded very well in spawn proofing the area.
If you want to try to improve spawning by removing blocks it has to be all the way to the surface, you want the highest solid block in the chunk to be as low down as possible since the game spreads the spawn attempts in that chunk evenly between the bottom of the world and the highest block in the chunk.
I do enough caving that I don't feel the need to build any automatic mob farms so I don't have any designs to recommend, when I hunt slimes in a swamp I usually just cut down trees, flatten the ground a bit, add a few torches around the edges (just to add a little light) and fill in some of the water to give me a flattish area with good visibility where I can run around killing mobs, including slimes.
If you're any good with a bow, the best way to hunt slimes is go to the swamp and build yourself a small tower with a ladder and platform near the waters edge. Build up high enough that skellies on the ground can't shoot you. Start shooting everything you can see....or shoot everything but slimes. You can jump off your platform into the water and go and collect the massive amounts of xp laying around and either collect the slime balls or kill them by hand with your sword. Then either head home or climb back up your tower and repeat the cycle. I've gotten stacks of slime balls in one night doing this...
