Newbie here.. Old geezer checking out game son wanted to play ;).. Interesting info, but initial post is way dated. Would be useful with an update of the original post which people are most likely to read.. Some examples:
Bedrock is no longer at 0.. -64 I believe.. And the blue lapis is likely more interesting to use with enchanting table than to make blue dye you can also make from flowers...

At this point, the game evolves so quickly that a guide would be outdated by the time someone finishes writing it...I still haven't learned all the mechanics from the version I started on (1.5, redstone comparators).
