Here's a few shots of my recently (over the weekend) remodeled main storage area in my base. Remodelling roughly doubled the capacity, and made the room a lot nicer to look at (though it takes up a lot more space...still, the old storage room was undoubtedly the ugliest room in my base, and one of the very earliest created - moving the contents of 40 or so chests is really a disincentive to redoing storage areas). Still, I was out of room for several things (only had one chest for coal and redstone, and both were overflowing) - the redo took it from 40 chests up to 76 chests, and allowed me to double the chests assigned to stuff that was overflowing while setting up a few chests in the room that are unassigned for future use.

HOLY CRAP. How long did this take you to make? You, sir (or ma'am, I can't tell with your name), have a VERY nice room. Wow.
Wow. That is simply AMAZING. I'm using the same texture pack right now, lol. Mind if I use this idea in my world? And I like the crafting-table-in-the-stairs thing. How did you get it to look so light with no torches? Wow. Just... Wow. You, sir, deserve at LEAST this:
Thanks man! You can use it too. And like what the other guy said, there is glowstone behind the chests and redstone lamps in the ceiling.

I couldn't figure out how to upload the images directly, eventually I'll learn that. And I realize this is kind of a dead post but I just wanted to show my storage room.
*Edit* I now realize I messed up the links. I'll fix it.
Here are mine from my latest. playing the Direwolf20 modpack from the FTB launcher.
Main chest room. Chests are all from the Iron Chests mod, all gold except two diamond ones.
Potion Chests. Left is for reagents, the right has potions in it.
Thaumcraft3 items, including things I've made, Quicksilver, Vis Shards, Amber & Zombie Brains
The walls, floors and in some cases ceilings are made out of Xychoridite bricks from the Xycraft mod. The ceiling in the potion room is made out of Chiseled Basalt brick covers from Redpower2.
A lot of these designs look incredably nice.
I am using the new snapshot, and spent a lot of time trying to semi-automate my storage.
Here are some pictures- I will try to upload them to a different image host later to make them easier, probably will do all that once the rooms are completely finished.

This is what I see when I walk into my house. It's still a work in progress, ignore the dirt. Anyway hidden in this foutain is 2 double chests, which funnel any items taken in down to a stack of double chests on B1- my main storage floor.
http://puu.sh/1RgW1
This is right after the fountain area, It is my main storage for precious ores, stones, and tools. Nothing fancy here, except the chest near the top middle, which funnels things into a chest for chicken-related items.
http://puu.sh/1RgWc
A back view of the above room. Middle chests store redstone and diamond/iron/ ect. Very left is for holding stuff while i craft, while the one next to the anvil is for more anvils!
http://puu.sh/1RgY9
This is right below my fountain area, items here are for easy sorting. Right next to this you see a temporary enchanting room, it is not there, you saw nothing.

This is what a standard room on my storage floor looks like. I will have each of these organized according to purpose, but only a few are done so far.
This room, as you may be able to guess, stores building material blocks. Cobblestone is handled seperately because it normally stockpiles to much greater amounts. Every block or item gets 2 double chests. each room is 5x3 and holds a good 13 or so items or blocks.
http://puu.sh/1RgWW
A view from a bit further back, showing more of these rooms, and the hideous looking, incomplete area that it is.
For every farm or mob farm I make, a separate chest is made close by for me to drop off the materials, which are then funneled down into here. All of this is controlled from floor 3 of my base, which I dubbed the command center. So far, only the wheat farm is fully hooked up and operational, and at the press of this button It automatically harvests and places all wheat into the appropriate chest in the storage room. For things like the tree farm or mob farms, the chest will need to be worked manually, and will drop things down to b1 for storage.
Mine materials will be sent up via minecart to the mineral processing room, which is really just a ton of furnaces located right next to a storage room specifically for ores and various finds.
my new base is still under heavy construction but i started my storage room today, got the layout, now just to put in all the chests and replace all the dirt/stone with stone bricks
My initial storage room, though by now I have stripped it of 7 chests. Underneath the chest you see was my Ores chest, which quickly got crowded with junk such as Dirt and Flint. To the right was a double chest that nearly got saturated with redstone dust, and above that was my glowstone (which I store as dust so I don't need to break open blocks if I want to upgrade potions). This led to:
Again, I have salvaged some chests. This was entirely chaotic until today. Now, the middle chest stores only wood related items, and the right one only boats and minecarts. The left one has random stuff (4 clay balls, 5 bone meal, 27 books, one blue wool). Between the middle and right chests, a ladder, which leads to:
My current storage room. Doubles as a furnace room and a brewery (hence the water). Unseen is an incinerator, the first of the world (at least officially, I'd previously use cacty that are lying about, or just chuck items into a pit where they will despawn). However, as the Dirt chest quickly overflowed, I feel this will only be a temporary solution. A sneak peek at my current project:
When this is done, I'll post a topic called "Castle of Glass". Look out for it.
This will be so big, if I only use the outer walls for chests, there will be room for 56 double chests, room enough for nearly 200,000 cubic metres of blocks, per floor. Five floors means room for at least a million blocks.
Man, I really need to organize my chests, the most important stuffs (including 2 double chests of coal, I really don't know why I am hanging onto that stuff -_-) are in my main room but also about 6 double chests of random stuff plus some additional random stuff everywhere in the house, a record chest in the basement beside the (magic) MuShRoOmS chest, which contains mushrooms and mushroom blocks, which I will probably never use...
My current storage room - in the making as we speak, is 52x52 in size, with 10 sets of 3 chests on each wall, this is 3x10x4 = 120 double chests, and i can expand below if i want.
No world is EVER finished
Filling this structure with one ring of chests gets the aforementioned 56 double chests. Two rings gets me 100 double chests. Seeing as I need at least 200, things will be all-right. I'll probably end up with at least a thousand.
That is a damn impressive storage room...
[Overused Signature Goes Here]
Certainly.
(I really can't stop you anyway xD)

Minecraft [Alpha] 1.7.3 had blocks that you can use to build with.
Minecraft now has blocks that you can use to build with.
Nothing has changed in my opinion." That is all.
This is very cool but aren't you worried about fire?

My future giant storage. All holes you see in the wall , i'm going to dig straight for like 172 blocks to find all resources near that storage room.
Warehouse in my little poorly-made jungle town. To the left
Little sneak peek for the perv out there
Yes those are tower of pimps , shut up :c

While this is true, I'm retiring that world when the new update comes out.
