Easily, steak. Just make a massive cow farm. They drop more drops than any other animal and give you the best saturation (i.e., you don't get hungry often). 30 pieces of steak easily give you more than a (minecraft) month worth of food.

I prefer melons, because I have an extremely large farm (9x9) for melons, and each block makes a slice, and each slice restores some hunger points. The only bad thing is that melons have a relatively low saturation level, so you're hunger will go down somewhat fast. Meat has very high saturation levels when cooked, and if you have a farm with animals that drop the food you're looking for, then cook it and eat it! You're hunger will stay full for a while!
every food source has its good parts.. my favourite food source is stew if your living in a mushroom biome.. melons are nice cuz you dont have to plant them over and over, meat is good cuz it heals 4 hunger bars, but i dont use it cuz u have to kill alot of animals and you have to feed them etc... Its best to create Automatic melon farm, so u get melons with a push of a button and no replanting...
With the snapshot, cookies/melons are the best. Compare:
2 wheat+1 cocoa bean= 8 hunger
3 wheat= 2 1/2 hunger
1 Br. Mushroom+1 Red Mush.+1 bowl OR 1 mooshroom= 5 hunger per inventory space
1 melon= A bunch of hunger (probs a little less than cookies but more efficient than cookies
1 cow+1 (char)coal= 4-12 hunger (less efficient and takes more effort to keep renewable than cookies)
1 pig+ 1 (char)coal= 0-8 hunger (worse drop rate than cows)
1 chicken+ 1 (char)coal= 0-2 1/2 hunger (same deal with cows/pigs)

You guys obviously know nothing about the actual mechanics of hunger in the game. Try searching up "Ethoslab hunger mythbusters." He just did a video last week about all the mechanics of food and such. Porkchops and steaks are the best food sources, buddy.
cows by far, they drop 1-3 pieces of raw beef every time
Silly... It's Mooshrooms... They give you beef, can be milked for mushroom stew, and you can get mushrooms for making large mushrooms so you can make stew without mooshrooms.
Golden apples are kind of a waste of gold though. You'd be better building with all those gold blocks. But that's just my opinion. The best food is cake, only if you like to stay at home. Otherwise, pork is your best option. Bread is more abundant, but takes more time to obtain and satisfies hunger slightly less. It is still good if you don't have pork.
I think melons are very good and a nice source of food. One melon drops some melon slices, but 1 gives only one bar of food. So it is very balanced.
Melons are cool, I'll admit. But they aren't an efficient way to stock up on food unless you have a chronic need to satisfy your hunger bar one meat pop at a time.
I didn't really mention mushroom stew, but that is best in the Nether. Not as much above ground, but yeah, if you have a mooshroom you are awesome. You get infinite stew. I bet McDonalds wishes they could pull that trick.
Overall, pork is the best for journeys, cake is best to eat at home, and bread works for any situation.
