Whoa. Lot's of activity. In answer to the questions about getting items from outside, it can be done, but you need to have a clean water source connected to your airlock that drains the items into a different room. Just not byproducts from mobs. Outdoor mobs can never be used/eaten/processed.
To those who asked about mob farms and 'clean' grass. I've been trying to think of something. Only thing I could think of was like someone else said, ussing fresh water to clean it and disposing of the water. I suppose that calls for a new room. Like, your dirty water disposal room. It would be a giant pool or radiated water, so you'd need it to be airlocked away from your base, I'd suppose. Any objections?
Or, harvest seeds from the outside, clean them through a filter, then plant them in the shelter. It would put a lot of focus on being underground enough to make a Bucket, rather than wanting to go outside every opportunity.
Anything you bring in must be washed in the water. So yes, seeds and saplings can be washed.
And yes, Lenoth, you could build the surface biodome, but it would be unsafe in the daytime unless it was really thick.
I'm a bit confused about the air cleaning thing. Must be missing something there.
As to the cave question, sure explore it, just be aware of light. I like the idea of burning anything you had on you if you accidentally get exposed and washing. Seems the most reasonable and adequately penalizing form of cleansing. Anything more straightforward than that?
Just a idea, why not require a certan ammount of grass blocks per block of open space? Like 10 blocks of open space to 1 grass block. Or this could be made more simple by just haveing like 5 or 10 blocks per room.
This could be implemented to make a better and more complex complex.
You could need a certan ammount of coal per room, and a certan ammount of grass per room.
so let me get this strait i can harvest sand from outside or any block if i wash it but nothing from mobs?
As a general rule you can't harvest anything from the outside world after the first day. It really isn't that hard. If you have a cleaner, you can clean the items. Best to implement a chance of incineration if you are good with redstone.

I'm sorry if someone already said something about this but if there is a still water source for cleaning after going out into the radioactive world would the water have to be changed every time because it would be radioactive too?
You're over-thinking it. Way way over-thinking it.
OT: I am making a custom map for this that starts you at y=30 with limited resources. I am also looking into a small mod that will implement sun damage on the player by setting him on fire. As was all stated in my uncredited original post you hacks.
No worries mate :smile.gif: probably just a coincidence. Just tickled a nerve to see everything I already said re-posted as original thought. I wouldn't care except there no acknowledgement of my first post.

Yeah, the grass thing is to add a requirement for every space in wich you're going to live on. something that gives you air... of the clean kind.
Also FYI, the seed "Nuclear Apocalypse" will spawn you in a big desert perfect imo for a nuclear-like experience :wink.gif:.

After a avatar is washed in a still water source would that water source have to be changed because it would be radioactive and using is again would be pointless?
I geuss you have to throw away the water then, but you can keep the items out of the airlock so just make a chest and when you have water again you take al your items and clean them and after that replace the water.
i alwasys have a running water cleaning center so its always clean
love this challenge me and my friend are playing it on a small server and we decided to use a texture pack for the wasteland and a nice one for the shelter which you change when entering the airlock. Great idea really got me back into playing minecraft.

Correction. You just had to regurgitate my ideas without crediting me.
Read my goddamn post on the second page.

Use the following texture pack:

someone shound make a fallout 3/new vegas mod with radiation and like the post says sun does damage

You wouldn't want to kill a poor little dragon would you? You monster?
It's just a room with 2 doors at each side, it's supposed to be the place where you get to decontamination after going outside.

or maybe leaves and water...
It's pretty simple (my first challenge as well )
1. Start a new Map.
2. Follow the rules at the first post, (He also suggests a texture pack "LAST DAYS" for better experience).
and that's it, it's fun, makes the game more interesting :wink.gif:.
PDTA: I recomend the seed "Nuclear Apocalypse", it will spawn you in a big desert quite nice for a Post-war experience...
