If anybody wants, I could figure out some rules to fit in with some mods like RedPower or IndustrialCraft. I think it would be a welcome update to the challenge, wouldn't you agree?
Oh my goodness... Every time I think the thread has died, it comes back. I guess I'll have to go through the suggestions and finally revise this thing. I was kinda hoping that it would go away, but since it's still around, I'll adapt it to the changes... Sorry for being an absentee OP.
I've completed the preliminary overhaul. In anticipation of the impending update, it is tailored to changes that will be included when the update comes in. I've added a list of necessary items before the challenge starts, since hunger makes the challenge almost impossible, and victory conditions to let you get back to normal minecraft. Hopefully you'll feel like you've "beaten" the challenge.
As always, the changes and all are subject to your preferences. Feel free to let me know if I've nerfed the challenge with the changes, or anything else. Of course, I won't just up and change everything when you do, but it's nice to know, and will be taken into account. Mostly, I'm asking for feedback on the victory conditions and the preparation I've added, since those aspects haven't been tested or screened at all.
Hrm, not sure what I think of the ways to 'win' the challenge... digging a tunnel that short is too easy. I dig almost that far in my branch mine to begin with. The challenge overall does feel a bit nerfed to me, but I'll be going by the older version anyway when I play with my friend. What I've decided on as punishment for accidental exposure is to NEI in a whole bunch of poison potions. If we get exposed to sunlight while not wearing armour, 2-minute poison. If we take damage in sunlight while wearing armour, 45-second poison. Every time we pass through the airlock back into our base, we have to drink a 45-second poison to represent the effects of radiation sickness. Of course in all cases, milk gathered from inside the base is allowed to cure the poison effect.
THat's a problem. I'm not sure what the cleaning process should be, but most of us will probably accidentally get exposed. Ideas?
yes
i think it should be that you have to cleanse yourself in a pool of wate that's 2x2 and 2 blocks deep if you go outside in the sun for a small amount of time.
and i think the process could go to animals too.
I think i posted on this a while ago, and i finally got around to trying it. I did find a few major problems in the main challenge, however.
1. You never put wood or saplings as something you need. I figured out in about 15 seconds that i was screwed becuase i had no wood (Besides the jungle sapling I chose, But it would take a very long time to grow and it needs a certian height limit that I couldn't provide then.
2. I think you should put a Book and Quill as one of the items so people could put their unique apocalypse stories here.
3. There aren't any bonus challenges like in the original. Some ideas I had were Vegan (No animal products, this means no milk, no meat, no anything from an animal.), Sweet Tooth (Only eat foods considered 'Fancy', like mushroom stew or cookies or cake), or anything of that kind.
Trying the challenge today, Probably going to have a good time.

for technic/tekkit users, i propose the following tips and rules
1: -rule- : your decontamination machine requires only 2 alternating pistons and half the regular time if you cover the chest in oil instead of water.
2: -rule- : you can use oil in the airlock cleaning machine to clean off armor worn outside
3: -rule- : uranium must be stored either submerged in a 3 block deep pool of oil or outside your base after mining, it cannot be decontaminated and you must decontaminate all items ajacent to it in your inventory and clean all other items in your inventory in clean water, you must clean any tool used to mine up to 2 uranium ore, if a tool is used to mine any more than 2 but less than 20 uranium ore it must be decontaminated, if a tool is used to mine more than 20 uranium ore, it cannot be decontaminated and must be discarded
(so dont use a diamond+ pickaxe to mine uranium) uranium ore blocks are safe enough until they are mined but they do contaminate water sources next to them (contamination doesn't flow upstream, although running water downstream of the uranium is considered contaminated)
4: -rule- : darkmatter, redmatter, reinforced stone, and reinforced glass can be used on the outside of your bunker, walls made of these materials need only be 1 block thick.
5: -rule- : force fields protect an area from contamination, but do not protect an area from the damaging effects of sunlight.
6: -rule- : if you have powercraft installed, a power crystal can decontaminate everything within 5 blocks of it if left alone for 7 minecraft days, the range is extended to 10 blocks if you apply a pulsing redstone current to it
7: -rule- : the nanosuit protects you and your non-hotbar items from contamination for as long as it has power and auto-cleans items placed into inventory areas other than the hotbar (gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "hotbar" doesn't it? :-) ), the quantumsuit protects you and all your items from contamination and can even auto-decontaminate items, due to strange things the nuke blast did to minecraft physics, darkmatter, redmatter and gem armor do not protect you against the harmfull effects of the outside environment
8: -rule- : you must follow the nuclear fallout rules in any mystcraft age with a green or red sky and/or fog
if you spawn unprotected in a contaminated age, you have thirty seconds in which to build a shelter or link back to your home in the overworld
tips:
-redpower light detectors + REther transmitters/recievers make great day/night indicators
-FOR POWERCRAFT USERS: using a teleporter to teleport items into your cleaner/decontaminator can be quite usefull
- because oil cannot be contaminated, and is also an excelent decontamination agent don't be quick to turn it into fuel.
This is going to be awesome!
Edit:I decided to not install IC2 and Buildcraft, but i did install GLSL shaders.
IC2 might be too high-tech for this challenge, but then again look at the Fallout series.
Wait... must find this texture pack o_O
We can't let a good challenge die!

If you find an NPC village, and you can get 2 of them underground, you can make a 'Fallout' like shelter. And close it forever to live underground!
I wont get out now just for playing fare.
GOOD CHALLENGE.
Minecraft was the best in 1.7
This challenge is awesome.
Some one should make a mod made just for this challenge, that would be awesome!!
GENERATION 33: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
