I love this challenge. But i'm geting bored with only one kind of wood. I'm made my rule that if i surround another kind of tree with my wood loogs and put mushrooms on logs and wait for three days. It becomes my second mother tree.if second gets killed i do not die but if my mother mother tree dies. game over. (you can have only one heart of each kind of wood.)
@BoltStrikes I believe the purpose of the challenge is to grow roots on the surface, trees don't grow ground cover like vines do, which is essentially what you're doing by using leaves instead of logs.
@Zer0Down I understand your no diagonals rule, as for a majority of the first couple years I played this challenge was following those same rules. Yet since then I've changed my mind on the diagonal rule only in regards to logs at the same block level. I will not place a diagonal log above or below a root, but I will if they are on the same level. Here's my reasoning for this: pixel art. I am an artist, as many who frequent the TreeCrafter Server and Forum know. Over the past couple of years I have ventured out into other areas of art outside of traditional. One of these areas is that of pixel art. When making a line that actually looks good in pixel art you will find that when it bends only the corners of the pixels are touching. They don't sit side by side, because that would make the line appear jagged or thicker than it actually is. So, why is it that when we see two pixels only touching corners that we perceive the continuation of the line? I actually can't answer that one, but the point is, if you take a screen shot, or look down on your roots from above, and you have been making diagonal connections your brain will still interpret it as one continuous 'line'. That and it helps you save on the amount of logs you use early on. But those are just my personal thoughts on the subject matter.
@sami0008 If you feel like you're getting bored with one kind of wood I can understand switching to another tree type, and if you feel like doing that through your method makes sense story-wise go with it. Personally though, perhaps you should try building different tree shapes using your original logs. And you can always use logs from other tree types on/in your tree, but only for decoration, you should not be using them as a replacement for your original tree. On the other hand, if you really want to do that sort of thing I would suggest looking into some mods that include tree breeding, just remember to use leaves from your original tree that have mutated to grow the new trees from.
@Itsrainingstars If you're looking to play this with other people, and not just in a single player world the link in my description is to a server that hosts TSC players, if you're interested.
We recently started a new map with a small mod pack for our Tree Spirit Challenge Server. I would encourage new players to come check us out!
Well, I'm not sure how to help you with the FTB launcher.
I only mentioned our server because we specifically selected mods so that those of us who do not have the best of computers can still get on and play. If you change your mind or figure the launcher out, you're always welcome to join. We'd love to have a new member.
Bought Minecraft last month and decided that after playing with my boyfriend a bit and on my own I was ready for a little more challenge, this caught my interest and it is now the fifth night, i'm hiding in my little hole and have 5 saplings planted and waiting for them to grow, I think this will be a good challenge for me
Started this yesterday on a private server with my friend. I've played 11 in-game days and I've written in a journal (book and quill) I pulled out of creative on my first day in order to add some flavor to the challenge. I chose Dark Oak because... why not? I'm making skimpy roots right now, but I'm hoping to expand them into architectural wonders once I get some more wood. May as well check out a server while I'm at it.
Me and my friend have decided to put together a schematic made up mostly of command blocks that you can paste into your world with MCEdit that forces you to follow the rules or it gives you a painful reminder of half a heart of damage per 4 seconds not touching your heart-logs. We're almost finished and when we are, I will showcase it on my youtube channel and place a download link here for all of you that want it.
If Lilariel could add this link to the News and Announcements post, that would be great.
Thanks for coming up with this great challenge and you're welcome for our contribution. It was an honor to create this to increase the enjoyment of the people who want to have a good experience with this pack.
UPDATE!!! We have discovered a problem with the Birch Schematic and are working on a fix. Please avoid using it until then because the mechanism will give you wither effect even if you're touching a Birch Log.
Hello fellow tree spirits, I spent a long time last year being a tree, and strove to make a soundtrack to epitomize the experience. however, I did not take into consideration the full day cycle... but I felt like it might be entertaining for those who prefer to play with music on rather than the minecraft music. It does loop seamlessly, and it's a bit less than 10 minutes, so it can give you a bit of sense of time. I hope to write a more effective tree soundtrack in the future, but here you guys go if you're interested:
I love this challenge. Here is what i got so far. I am also hoping to make a video but not with this one. ill start over when i do the video but ill make sure to post it here.
@Kathyrria I've actually tore it down and started a bigger one. Im going for the furnace challenge too so i need to go to the neather, but i want to finish up the tree which will take me a while. Here is what i got so far.
So ive expanded my tree and grew it really big, added some branches to grow more trees on, and brought my wheat inside. This is what the result was. Im feeling pretty good.
Curse you OrigamiMan! I've been wanting to start this every since Lilariel started this thread but just never got around to it. Now after viewing your progress I'm feeling the urge again and it's killing me because I'm already in the middle of a large project. Perhaps another side project won't completely derail me... *sob*
what do you think about this idea?

How do I do this? I can't find the ip or anything.
Its not a server, its just a self-enforced ruleset

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
