I agree, reading this thread last night has gotten me excited to play minecraft again. Naysayers do your naysaying elsewhere or keep it to yourselves.
@Zalom: That is an effing awesome wooden Lotus-tree-type-thing!
I think I'm gonna try this challenge, but I have one question about the rules that I didn't quite understand. Once my tree is 'started', can I walk wherever I want even if there's no logs? But I can only pick things up, attack mobs, mine things, etc. when I'm standing on or next to a log? Or can I only ever step on or next to a log?
Doing this challenge on chuthulus server. I went through the challenge of digging up my account from the old forums and making a curse one just to post on this thread, that this is epic
Naysayers? Oh, I don't mind them at all, all feedback, be that negative or positive, is still feedback! Nothing is ever perfect, there's always something that can be improved. And besides, even if it's a ragepost, it still bumps the topic to the front page. :tongue.gif: This challenge is being so well received that it will take enormous amounts of naysaying for me to get my tighty-whities in a knot. Ol' man thulu's snowball has turned into quite an avalanche!
If someone wants to share their negative opinion, they may most certainly feel free to do so. Us tree-spirits are too thick skinned to let it get under our skins anyway. :wink.gif:
Sorry Lil, I wasn't on when you were :tongue.gif: Hopefully lag issue should be fixed. Was running another memory intensive program xD
Nothing to apologize about! I just dropped by to check and see how things were, hehe. I don't have time to play much nowadays anyway. Couldn't find any trees though, no idea which direction to run off into. :tongue.gif: The lag wasn't bad at all after the initial spike either, I think it was just coincidence.

Generally, you want to try to stay on or next to a tree or leaf at all times, aye. While playing the challenge, pretend that you need to be able to reach out an arm and touch a log or leaf of your tree at all times. :smile.gif:
Edit:
After skimming over the rules, I do actually see that I have completely failed to mention in the rule summary that not leaving the tree is part of the challenge. xD
Added a line about it, as well as putting in that whole "reaching out to touch a log" thing. Have needed to mention it a few times, might aswell put it where people first read anyway. :wink.gif:
I TOOK ON THE CHALLENGE, GOT SOME HELP, AND WE WON YOUR CHALLENGE.
That's right, the ultimate goal was to create a world tree, right? Well WE DID IT!
In this picture we have LuRockz, ApocalypticCube, Tyharn007 and me, WillJ.
Here's the INSIDE of the tree (there's hollow roots and hub trees, too!)
The tree is actually quite beautiful inside, it feels like it's oozing with nature!
This here is a shot from the tallest point on the tree, exactly at the point where blocks first touch clouds!
It's quite a view from here, and easy enough to access.
And finally we have a shot of the inside of our farms. This place kind of place is created when the roots reach a pool. It creates a sort of mangrove around it and allows for wheat to be grown in the corners.
And there's Tyharn007 taking a bath in the farm water!
The people involved in this project were:
WillJ: Project founder and main builder. (Tree Spirit)
ApocalypticCube: Builder and great friend. (Tree Spirit)
Tyharn007: Builder and great friend. (Tree Spirit)
Jixero: Donator and moderator of server. (Tree Spirit)
LuRockz: Materials donater, observer and great friend.
Dragonkid91: Materials donator, observer and great friend.
This was all done on the absolutely LOVELY FellowCraft SMP server, check it out!
...wow, how ironic, I came her exactly to suggest that it would be awesome to have a server where multiple people worked on a single tree, and then WJohnston posts right above me.
Bravo.
But yeah, I notice that after the first few days, playing in single player just feels like there's almost too much to do. I want so many roots going in so many directions, but I can only do one at a time. Having a team would make everything happen so fast!

I heard rumor that you're WLing a server. I am very interested in this challenge, and I'd love to participate. IGN=TheAussieDoc, but that's right in my forum profile anyway. Hopefully I'm not missing a thread that linked to the server or anything...
One question: what exactly qualifies as "touching" logs? Must two logs share a whole side, an egde, or even just a corner?
People do that differently, depending on what they feel like for the most part.
Generally though, this is more of a game-mechanic limitation, than a part of the challenge itself. A tree would have no problems growing a diagonal root, but it looks odd in minecraft. :tongue.gif:
I avoid having only corners linking entirely myself, and atleast limit touching sides and edges to when I'm building roots up and down, but even still I'd say even just linking corners are fine, if you don't mind the strange looks it will get.
Well then get out! if youre just going to spam the topic with your displeasure, then you are not worth OP's time.

See? Always room for improvement!

THIS WAS ALL DONE 100% LEGITIMATE, THE RULES WERE OBEYED AND NEVER BROKEN UNLESS BY ACCIDENT. BUILT IN ROUGHLY 30 HOURS TOTAL.
If anyone was missed, please tell me. I love all of you for this.

Can I be whitelisted? IGN= digikids
Please click, it depends on you --->
I think it just may be down, so hes fixing the lag and stuff
Do you think more trees and tree spirits would be welcome there?
"Well then, let's get awesome!"
Yes, so long that the current tree spirits are okay with it, and you know what you're supposed to do, then go right ahead!
