I quit this challenge after resetting my Minecraft last time and losing my marvelous tree that reached the nether, never got a fireplace though, canopy was something that annoyed me to no end, shears may make me come back to it, yes I'm vain, so what? also; Sorry if I didn't read through the comments and find if this was asked, but if the leaves are attached to your tree, and are the leaves of your tree, should you be able to walk on them? I was thinking this over last challenge and I don't think I ever asked...

The way I'm playing, it's ok. With the addition of shears, it makes it alot easier as well. However, OP would probably have more of a say then me.
This sounds like a neat challenge, but ive tried it several times and get annoyed very quickly. It seams like half the time im just sitting there waiting for my trees to grow.
I will definitely be trying this out since it seems like a lot of fun xD I might use a tree from the premium wood mod once it comes out since... that seems like it it'll make it at least a little different... And I'll definitely try it again with the Aether Mod if that ever gets released :3 so many fun ways to try this xD and it seems like it's going to be awesome when I do o 3o

Please check out my youtube commentaries o .o it would mean a lot! (its not much... but I do... kinda try? all well)

Sounds interesting. How are you supposed to keep track of which trees are from your tree, and which are other trees?
EDIT: Also, has anyone tried it where you are NOT allowed to leave your tree to collect drops? This sounds like I would enjoy it more, because I like the idea of having to plan how to collect the drops. Is it insanely difficult, or is it ok?
Just a quick question... If I used the piston mod to launch myself (seeing how normal pistons don't launch) from a root to a branch, would this still be cheating/unfair? O .o cause it might be interesting to include xD if it's frowned upon then I wont... I was just curious for another's opinion o 3o

Some people say it's ok to leave the tree for a moment, while others say you have to have constant contact. The majority I think would probably so no to this idea though.
Can we start a little differently and maybe plant a sapling in an area of our choosing and then chop it down to make it our tree heart? In case an area we want to be in has no trees?
I've been having a lot of fun with this challenge. First few nights were tough, but eventually I made a large enough "mother tree" to fit a bed inside and got enough roots to begin collecting food reasonably.
One change I made to the rules, though; I CAN take wood and saplings from other trees I run into. I like to imagine that my tree is incredibly evolved, and either bonds with other trees in a symbiotic-type relationship or just cannibalizes them completely. Within a few days I was already getting stacks of logs from all the saplings I planted from the original tree before I took down any foreign ones that I don't really think it changes the challenge much other than aesthetics.
Now that I'm thinking about it, though, I think I may want to change my view distance. I usually have it on the farthest setting, but this seems unreasonable; a tree can't see that far! Maybe I'll set it at the lowest setting, and increase it as my roots grow farther.

Running on leaves is fine yes, as long as they are attached to the logs of your tree. Leaves are just like your logs in all aspects of moving around. If you touch a log or leaf block, you're good. :smile.gif:

The very beginning is the slowest part of it. Once you have a tree-farm of a reasonable size going, things pick up the pace a lot.

Not being able to leave your tree for blocks ever was a rule originally, just as you describe. It's not as hard as it might sound, it's very doable. It's just very impractical and frustrating. I played with it myself in the beginning, but found it to be too annoying to keep. In the beginning, I started planning where to dig, and lay log paths to reach everything. Then I realized, I can just remove the logs after I've picked everything up, and use them elsewhere again. Then I realized I don't need to use logs at all, I can just place dirt to "push" the fallen blocks towards me. Then I realized I can use a bucket of water to do the same.
Then finally I decided "screw this. So many ways to do it, and they're all just annoying." xD
You can play with the rule if you want of course, it makes more sense and is more realistic to include it, but it's simply so very impractical from a gameplay point of view that I didn't include it. :smile.gif:

A clever idea in my opinion. :tongue.gif:
If it's launching from branch to branch, root to branch, or just otherwise from one part of your tree to another, I say go for it!
How are you meant to get the wood for the roots when you can't even get to a tree without using wood?
Not sure what you mean. If you're thinking of in the very beginning of the challenge, you start by moving around from wherever you spawn, until you find a tree and a location you like. Spend any amount of time you want searching for it, as long as you remember not to harvest anything on the way. Once you have the resources from your first tree, you are able to replant and re-harvest indefinitely. :smile.gif:
Can we start a little differently and maybe plant a sapling in an area of our choosing and then chop it down to make it our tree heart? In case an area we want to be in has no trees?
Absolutely, yes. It's what I did on my server aswell. :wink.gif:
By the way, one thing about the challenge concerns me: How are we ever going to mine? Wouldn't that take stacks upon stacks of logs, and wouldn't mining out the floor and placing a log there get very annoying?
It takes a lot of logs, aye. But you might quickly find that you don't actually need to spend a lot of time mining. :wink.gif: The only things you need to harvest, is iron for a bucket. Everything else, has substitutes in wood! When you do mine however, it helps a lot to find open caves. I've taken to rooting from cave-system to cave-system, filling holes up with water and planting small trees underground here and there to decorate it. You don't need to discover much more than one or two iron vein before you have enough iron to last you a very long time!
Can I ONLY step on wood? What if I want to step on dirt that I placed in my tree, or planks I placed in my tree.. is that not allowed (if i wanted to make a hut for example, can it be any material, can I have wool flooring ect.
and If my tree is next to another random tree, can I walk on that tree?
This depends. If you are inside your tree-trunk, fully encapsulated in logs on all sides, you can build with anything and still move on it. You are inside your tree after all, it makes sense for the spirit to move around freely everywhere inside it. A hut is a grey area though, but I suppose if you build that too out of logs on the outside, you could decorate it as you desire on the inside.
Consider though, would a tree spirit really want a hut? Or would he create a living area as part of the tree-trunk instead? :wink.gif:
Hopping over on a different tree that is not a child of the grandfather is no dice however. A tree that is not part of you, is as inaccessible to the spirit as a patch of rock, in respects of moving about.
Wahah! Hoax Wii cover. xD
Looks nice, although I still have a feeling half blocks would look more natural than the logs there. Test both, see which you like best. :wink.gif:

It does not even look like a tree. :dry.gif:

Some people say it's ok to leave the tree for a moment, while others say you have to have constant contact. The majority I think would probably so no to this idea though.
You start by cutting down a single tree except for the bottom log, and then you can only use the materials from that original tree.
You can use the other trees for materials, just not for logs, leaves or saplings. Planks and sticks is ok.
One change I made to the rules, though; I CAN take wood and saplings from other trees I run into. Wait, you mean building leaf roots?
While not specifically against the rules per say, it defies all kinds of logic. xD
thats pretty smart. still, I wont do it. my CDO (OCD) prevents it.
