As for the server suggestion: Conquest has something like this. Each team starts in a castle in a 700x700 map. They can alter terrain, do anything. The first team to get the other team's diamond block wins. However, no one has signed up for it. I think that PvP tournaments could perhaps have this as one of the weekly categories. Like one week's tourney might be fists only, the next might be open terrain, do anything you want. Make a base, mine, etc.
EDIT: Regarding my first post about the server, when you get the XP at the end, it would be for the next map (after the reset). This is good because while they have the XP, they have no weapons at the start, so it can be lost. I think. Also, can someone provide some commentary other than: It's good. I mean, thanks, but it doesn't help us improve the idea.
EDIT 2: Wait, Mega, have you ALWAYS been a mod?!
Hehe just last week, about the mod-ness.
I believe that we should also add the option of getting a free enchanting table at the start of the match, but at the cost of losing a portion (30%?) of their XP. It could encourage decision making about decreasing the enchantment quality, but ensuring the enchantments. Thoughts?

Awesome on the modness! As for the enchanting table, I thInk that rather than it be a percentage of the XP it should be a set level, rewarding those who did good and encouraging those who didn't to work harder. Also, whitelist or no whitelist? I like no whitelist because it allows us to get more members and more publicity and the admins can weed out any hackers. Also, I've never ONCE seen a whitelist application denied so it hardly makes a difference.
Thanks!
I agree with no whitelist. It's always interesting to have stragglers with their own agendas, instead of just the two (or three?) battling clans.

Agreed, jungle bases are a terrible idea. 1) You can burn down the forest as Mega said, 2) You'd have to use leaves/wood to build and they aren't very defensive materials. Anything else would just stand out. And as for ocelots, maybe they are good for survival/RP servers, but in a PvP environment, I see no useful use. Killing chickens, why? We have farm grinders. Keeping creepers away, maybe. However if you are on guard, it shouldn't be a problem.

you guys are 100% correct, but human beings are sight creatures if we don't see it its not there the only reasons an enemy would burn down a jungle would be 1 they find the base even tho it would be better to take it over 2 the enemy is paranoid 3 you have a heavy presence in that area also cutting down one of those big trees would provide enough wood to build a town also there is a simple way to stop brush fires make a line where there is no foliage at my home in W.A whenever there is a brush fire they make a line in the desert.
I have implied this once but wasn't very succesful since enemy clan messed up the redstone circuts but anyway at least half of our clan escaped because of some flares.
... But at the same time, definitely not enough at all.
It's going to get a major update... or overhaul... soon... because Minecraft has changed since Alpha 1.2 (which can be seen in some of the early screenshots :tongue.gif:)
Oh! With the latest snapshot, These cool things called Iron Golems have been added. Here's a little video showing their strength.
So basically, they are crafted with 36 iron ingots and a pumpkin. These things seem VERY strong, as in the Yogscast video, they were able to easily kill one player with hardly any problems. Although in PvP, you will usually want to fight in groups, I would think that if we managed to get these things to target the enemies, they could be a great asset. My opinion though.

I would just like to say that the table of contents appears to be broken, I'm not sure if this is a known issue or not, but I thought I'd point it out just to be safe.
Jesus guys stop being so dark. You really think I wouldn't back it up anywhere? Also, I'm pretty sure it's just a board coding thing, I'm about to check if the actual editable text is any different, which I doubt it is.
Edit: That said, changing the board around without alerting us to any sort of consequences was an absolute oversight on the part of CURSE or MinecraftForum. Either one.
Edit Edit: There see? The code just got messed up in the transfer from the old setup to the new, I didn't even need to dig up my backup files. Thank goodness for that... Anyway. The new forum layout messed up the post and now it's ugly, but all the text is still there. I'll be performing a sweeping update on not only the thread format but the content as well, I suppose. It might take a while.
So in Latin class, we just finished 1.8 of Caesar's comentarii de bello gallico. In this segment, before the Helvetians try to cross the Rhone, Caesar fortifies the area by putting up walls and digging ditches right in front of the walls, getting much more effect out of the walls. In addition, he saves effort by building these walls only where the river is shallow and crossable. This causes the helvetians to split, making both separate attempts futile.
The biggest thing applicable to minecraft I believe is the fact that he fortifies the shallows more heavily than the rest of the area. How could we apply this to our defenses?

Fortifying the shallows more heavily than areas with deeper water would make little difference in Minecraft because it is just as easy to cross deep water as it is to cross shallow water. And any weakness in your defenses is sure to be exploited, so having stronger fortifications in shallow water areas would be a waste.
The only way having deeper water as an advantage would be the lack of blocks that can be built off of.

Yeah, that's pretty damn bad. And it all has to be re-written...

Anyways Maximus, I assumed you had a backup, but I wasn't sure This is a great resource, and it'd be a pretty big loss, hence the freakout.
