Everyone is so worried about FPS. This isn't a running competition to see who can finish the fastest. You have to look cool while doing it and get all the chicks. OpenGL is the language graphics card(or internal graphics) can use to speed things up a bit and assist, but not take over on the interface a person gives to a computer by focusing on graphic rendering. Language the computer is using to make hardware and software react to a displayed format on screen is increased with OpenGL which helps with API(Application Programming Interface). Example: it helps the language reach the rendering of graphics bypassing the inputs of keyboard, mouse, audio and windowing.
The "Graphics Library" is rendered faster, improving a multi-layered code of graphics improves the overall rendering significantly(or very little). If you have a decent computer, having OpenGL on Advanced isn't going to hurt anything more than a few FPS. If everyone's worried about FPS, that is fine but those frame drops, or missed keystrokes can be pretty much eliminated by allowing Advanced OpenGL to flutter about. Sure it reduces FPS, but if your getting 500fps, this isn't a pissing match for distance. Least your **** will be cleaner than the other guys, and tastier if your into that kind of thing.
