So I recently dug a underground tree farm, it's 32x12x8 (32 long, 12 wide, 8 high) I have the trees setup like
S S D S S D S S D S S with D being dirt and S being sandstone, so I have had four trees just grow through the ground, I go to chop them down and they've replaced the dirt above them and have turned into like little shrubs on the surface, I don't know how to post screenshots on here but if someone could tell me I could explain better, anyway to stop it? Really annoying for them to grow that high and take out the dirt I have to replace.
I believe that is a bug. You might want to build your tree farm a little further down to prevent any kind of incident like this.
I just replace all the dirt with stone and so far it's stopped them from growing through, it was weird, the wood blocks just replaced the dirt and had leaves and wood blocks above ground when I was 10 blocks below it but so far with the stone it hasn't happened, thanks for the input though

1 block below the surface?
