I have my FPS limited to 60, on far, fancy and special lighting. It never lags or anything, and more than that is unnecessary for me, although I'm sure it could run with at least a thousand FPS. I want to be able to run other programs in the background and such, though.
WTH are you running minecraft on? Im getting like 50 plus with far distant and fancy graphics. Although it drops a bit to 40ish when a new chunk generates. And all of this is on a the horrible horrible VISTA OS!
EDIT: Turns out I had a shat load of extra junk running in the background, ended them and tried FPS test again. Now im getting 150-200
My computer just doesn't like shading... So without smooth lighting about 600-800FPS. With it about 500-600.
But hell. No naked human eye can see anything past 60FPS...
20-40 on fast and far distance.
im thinking about buying a new computer, any suggestions? a computer that will run minecraft on fancy far whit 200fps or higher
I have every right to use that image as my avatar. I support 11/9, and I laughed at it. Don't like it? Too bad. Last time I checked, I could express my opinion freely on this forum.
80 on average, 90 30% of the time, and about 20% of the time I pull 120.

As soon as you find diamond.
You run.
You run fast.
You run not caring what else is back there.
You run because creepers know you found diamond.
You run because lava knows you found diamond.
Run.
The OPs FPS is only that high because there are zero chunk updates and he's point blank looking into a wall meaning there is less to render. When he's walking around, it probably drops into the 50s.
Fast - Any render distance

I've had worse.
Anyway, I have 4FPS With far render distance, fancy graphics and smooth lighting.
Normal textures lowest setting, looking up ~155FPS
Far/Normal: Anywhere from 30-40 or 10-20.
Small/Tiny: Almost always 20-35.
So, people, stop complaining about having "Only 70 FPS, dur hur." I'd kill for that FPS. :sleep.gif:
HEY!
I RUN VISTA!
I'm a pixel artist who makes pixel things and maps! I also do line art occasionally.
I have two work in progress resource packs!
This is the second one!
And of course, by "work-in-progress" I mean "will never, ever be completed".
Almost 500 without Optimine.
I get about 150 fps flying around
