More information. Considering Jadcraft with 30 players reached 4.6 Gb, I find a single player reachign 5.3 Gb hard to believe!
Well, Kurt's Far Lands or Bust world is over 7 GB and they were at 1.48 million blocks the last time the coordinates were revealed (the map in the link hasn't been updated).
Also, I assume that fundaykaide is playing on Beta 1.7.3 or earlier because the Far Lands don't exist in later versions, only an invisible wall (release 1.7+) or falling through "fake chunks", with terrain otherwise being generated normally, save for decoration.
My biggest was close on 400 meg before I stopped that world when 1.6.4 was released (I think). I didn't explore too much in the overworld, but I did in the nether and occasional portals to teh over world. Ended up at the furthest in the 50,000 block range using the nether to skip it.I did end up finding a triple witch hut though which was cool, but way too far out to be a useful thing (over 15 minute rail ride to there from my main base of operations if I had of done a rail link, which I didn't)
Currently I'm just about to start a new world in the latest snapshot and see how it goes.
The world that I played on almost exclusively from 1.2 through 1.6 (I didn't play it much by that time as I had a server I was playing on) made it to 256MB, probably mostly because I went off exploring about 10,000 blocks once.
My current world that I've been playing for only a few weeks is at 126MB, apparently. I'm not sure how because I've only gone about 1,000 blocks or so in each direction. Maybe it's because I had to go for a ways in the nether to find a fortress??
I ran a multiplayer server that had about 15 players whitelisted (although only about 7-8 active players) that I started just a couple of weeks before 1.5 came out (shut it down just prior to the release of 1.7) that reached 403 MB. I then re-started it in 1.7 (although I've already shut it down because, although it was very active at the start, activity pretty much stopped by January) that reached 485MB.
My minecraft smp worl that ive had for 3 years now is 784 mb in size you prob wont find anything like it its truly oustading but unfortunately it got corrupted.
My main world, Quintropolis, is at 1.73 GB as of today - I haven't actually explored far beyond 15k blocks in any direction yet, which is why it is so small (though it contains a considerable number of builds, which I'm sure adds to the size). I expect this size to increase dramatically once I update to 1.18 and do some heavy exploring (50k blocks+, etc.), probably a couple years from now.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
LP series? Not my style! Video series? Closer, but not quite. Survival journal, maybe? That's better. Now in Season 4 of the Legends of Quintropolis Journal (<< click to view)!! World download and more can be found there.
This is my first main survival world, which I played for about 6 months; it takes up about 165 MB:
Since then I've nearly quadrupled the size of the world, currently at 640 MB; however, the old figure of 165 MB almost certainly included the Nether and End, which I deleted a long time ago and have never been back to since, as the size of the Overworld has certainly grown by more than 4 times. In particular, I've placed more then 8 times as many torches since then, now over 870,000, which is more indicative of the amount of exploration I've actually done (this can also be expected to grow faster than overall area since the game generates chunks within render distance but I actually only explore chunks I walk through, the impact of which has become less significant over time).
I've also played on it for more than 173 real-time days, all of which was spent actually playing (no AFKing) and recently even broke the game's statistics by walking more than it can accurately display in vanilla, 21,474 km (I patched this years before in the custom client I made for this world so it can display up to 42,949 km, after which it will reset to 0; this is because the game uses a signed 32 bit integer to store distance in centimeters, which I currently convert to an unsigned value for display, more involved changes will be needed to use a 64 bit long for storage but I have plenty of time for that as it took over 8 years to reach half the maximum):
This is with my patch; it seems that even Mojang hasn't properly patched this in newer versions (stats now simply stop increasing at the signed 32 bit limit, which is IMO worse than wrapping around to 0 as my patch will eventually do, since you can record when this happens and add a multiple of 2^32 to get the real value):
Here is a series of renderings of how the world has grown since 2013:
Also, here are renderings of all of my worlds; none of my other worlds come even close to World1 (World1v2 was the world I mentioned in the old post in 2013; this was my second modded world and the first one using my own mods to change cave generation, with InfiniteCaves using a 3rd party mod that let you change the density of caves):

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Since this thread has been revived I thought to make an update on my worlds, particularly my first world, which I last mentioned 8 years ago:
Since then I've nearly quadrupled the size of the world, currently at 640 MB; however, the old figure of 165 MB almost certainly included the Nether and End, which I deleted a long time ago and have never been back to since, as the size of the Overworld has certainly grown by more than 4 times. The server play on (XKCD) was started back in 2009/2010. In 2015 it was at 5.65GB. Not sure how big it is now.

Almost 8 years later... and the same world is 4.87GB having travelled at least 30 - 50k in most directions.
