i pressed F3 and it said it was 989mb...... probably becasue of my strip mine that goes out 5000 blocks, and i was bored so i built a huge bridge in one direction for no reason. (not trying to brag but:) i've also explored a huge amout of the nether and been to the end world.
This is my first main survival world, which I played for about 6 months; it takes up about 165 MB:
Also, here is a map of all of the explored caves (excluding those not explored/without torches); most of the world was explored by exploring underground as opposed to surface-based exploration:
Meanwhile, this is my current main survival world, surface and underground (about 53 MB); as you can see, the underground part is quite different because I modded the cave generation; in particular, note how large the cave system on the left is, the scale is the same as above (vanilla generation):
This is my base (for scale, about 90 blocks wide), located near the middle of the second world; I used MCEdit to move it from the first world (I also rotated it 90 degrees), with some changes since then:
The seed I used for both of these is -123775873255737467 (1.6.4 or earlier, default; the seed originally came from a randomly generated seed), with spawn just to the north of my base at -92, 236.
Also of interest, this is from an MCEdit analysis of my first world:

I used MCMap, although it is broken on 1.7, only showing a few random chunks, and hasn't been updated since 1.3.1; newer blocks don't render, like redstone and coal blocks and stained clay, but this isn't noticeable unless you use them to build with; of course, in 1.7 this would include all of the new trees/flowers, entire mesa biomes, etc.
I'd like to have a replacement before I update my main world to 1.7.2 (when mods and Forge do); in particular, the ability to plot underground areas using torches to find explored areas; other viewers like Unmined can show underground areas but they show everything. Although I noticed that the last comment on the MCMap thread says there is a fix, only if it can be compiled and the .exe put up for download (I tried it myself with Visual Studio 2008; the source code is freely available; but also get lots of errors).
My main world, which I started in Alpha v1.2, is around 1.22 GB. It's pretty explored, to get to a jungle where coca beans grow on jungle trees/ocelots in jungles I had to travel 5000+ minecraft miles/metres. I've had to go even further to find new 1.7.2 chunks, to get new the new flowers and finally melon seeds from a jungle so I can finally have a melon farm.

I made a world on March 2nd, the day after 1.2.1 came out. It's 85.9 megabytes, and this was after the whole thing got destroyed a couple times by me accidentally deleting my minecraft file >.>

i have no idea how to mesure the size of a world care to explain for me XD
JadCraft just reset its world for 1.7.2, and the admin has been preparing to allow players to download the files of the old world.
This server has run for about 13 months, which about 30 players, who were very active. We have had some parts explored out to 30K from spawn, though some distant parts of the nether was reset for the 1.6 update, so players could mine quartz and find some working nether forts for wither skulls, not that many beacons were setup. It had three major citys, and many large player builds spread out throughout the world. Some well hidden underground. Spawn underground looks very much like swiss-cheese with all the tunnels.
Its size... 4.6 Gb
I myself plan to delete quite a few world region files (outlying ones) to reduce this world size when I download it.
My current world, started in 1.7.2, is 359.7MB there are 6 of us playing on it though. The previous world, we had from 1.2-1.6.4 is 488.4MB and my very first world from way back in beta 1.2 is 83.1MB.
My primary world that I started early-mid of 2012 in version 1.2.5 is currently showing 876MB in size. Approximately 90MB is cache files for Unmined though. I also pruned a fair bit of ocean in one direction in preparation for making a nether portal to that area for the new 1.7.2 features (I haven't yet updated). I believe it was around the higher 900MB range before doing that (though I think that also included the cache files for Unmined). Once I update an expand more, it'll probably break 1GB and start growing more.
My biggest one is 500 mb. It's not much more than a 3x3 block tunnel at bedrock level, 1000 blocks long, plus a small dwelling and storage. I started it for the "On a Rail" achievement.
Current SP World - 120mb
Mintutor now works in 1.13!

That comes out to 98,691 torches...
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
How do you make maps of your world like that?
