Lateley i have been trying to get the perfect paper villager, what is SO FREAKING HARD!
I need it obviously cuz i need the paper - emerald trade to make my perfect ironsmith. And YES i do have a sugarcane farm, i have tons of paper, and i have pretty much everything to get the perfect one. The thing is that i run out of emeralds before i get into the last trade. usualy get stuck on the clock or the compass, what really sucks... Anyone have a good tip to solve this?
Build up a good supply of emeralds by trading with other villagers at the same time while searching for the perfect librarian. Sell meat to butchers, wheat and wool to farmers, charcoal to almost anyone, all your extra paper to the librarians who have it but don't have it last. It's just like they say, it takes money to make money.
(Also, with the upcoming changes in 1.8, it'll be a lot less important, if it's even still possible, to have a "perfect" trader of any sort.)
Can't you only make the same trade with any particular villager about 3 times before it doesn't let you anymore?
It's random, between 3-13 trades before an offer locks (except the first time after it becomes available, when it's always exactly seven), and you can unlock all previously-locked trades, and potentially open up a new one, by trading for the last offer on their list. I thought everyone knew this by now? You just breed villagers until you find a librarian who's got paper in the final slot once all his other trades are opened up, and then:
1. Trade paper until it locks.
2. Close the window and wait two seconds for the trade list to update. Since you just traded for the last offer on the list, all trades (including the one you just traded for) become unlocked.
3. Trade paper until it locks.
4. (etc.)
In addition to what IronMagus said about having to trade with other villagers while you get started, it is also a good idea to start trying for your potential perfect villager using a villager whose first trade is high priced (e.g. Compass or Clock). The first trades unlock a lot easier so it'll save you emeralds down the road.
Also, definitely keep some failed paper villagers around until you get the perfect one. For example, if you can spend one emerald to buy glass and then unlock your paper to get 3-13 emeralds back you still make profit that can be used towards your perfect villager.
I have a question.

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.
