So I was roaming about as you do, and stumpled upon a sunken ship. I got the map and started heading towards the burried treasure. To my surprise, I find another sunken ship, this time sunken in sand, stone and dirt. Is this normal? Never seen this before.
Like Wesson said, you should have gone far away before reading the treasure map you got from that sunken ship, otherwise it would become a duplicate with the one which led you to that buried treasure.

I'm pretty sure that won't work?
Going far away and finding another map on the other hand is likely to find you a different treasure.
Is that so? I watched Xisumavoid in a Hermitcraft episode and he said he went far away from dug up treasures then reading the maps so that treasure maps wouldn't become duplicates

Tested in 1.14.2
I collected 7 Buried Treasure Explorer Maps from a shipwreck and ocean ruin field around -2725 / 55 / -1450 being careful to not put any of them on my hot bar so I wouldn't look at them by mistake.
Then I tp'ed to the four corners of the world (+/-29,000,000 / 100 / +/-29,000,000) and looked at 1 or 2 at each corner, all 7 were duplicates leading to -2567 / Y /-1499

Most likely the maps are generated when the chests are opened, not when they are first looked at.

Update; The sunken ship contains another burried treasure map
And it shows the buried treasure at the same location
Treasure maps always show the closest treasure location, wherever it is, so you will often get duplicates.
Having a shipwreck on top of your buried treasure is just a happy coincidence.
