Was a busy weekend for me, I meant to post some pics but just never found time to put them up on a host.
Just a quick progress update though, one of my eyes of Ender broke after my 4th or 5th toss, however by then I was close enough to the fortress that I only had to throw my second one about twice before it went into the ground. I could tell very quickly that it was the correct location because as I was starting to dig down I could hear a zombie pounding a door in. I dug down as far as the remaining ladders I had would take me, and was in a pocket of dirt, so I dug out a room and then dug over toward the sound of water. I broke out into a chaotic sight. A cave network and a ravine had ravaged the fortress leaving a chaotic jumble of floating fortress blocks stretching upward and around in several directions. The portal room floor was directly over the ravine (which I found out when silverfish broke floor blocks when coming to attack me).
The portal while a wondrous sight, disappointingly only had one eye of ender in it. I place my last remaining eye in it, and knew my next task was to get 10 more. However upon expanding my exploration of the fortress I found two more eyes in chests there. Then while looking around in a nearby desert I found another village and while lighting it up so that the village was somewhat secure from the first nights wave of monsters, I killed 3 endermen and got two more eyes. Now I only need 6 more eyes. I decided it was time I went back to my other village to get my dog and pack up as much stuff as I can and will relocate to the village that is closer to the end portal.

Nice! Lucky that the ravine and caves didn't destroy the portal. It must be nerve-racking, doing this all on hardcore.

Added another achievement.
I could be wrong, but I think they modified it so that the portal couldn't be destroyed anymore by ravine/cave generation. (If not, then yes, I consider myself very lucky)
I have two bows now and one is a power 1 bow, so your logic is flawed. Also snowballs can destroy the orbs, so if you get a shovel as a rare drop off a zombie thats an option too.
You do know that you can get snowballs by pouring water on snow, don't you?Btw,do you have any tips on how to find an npc village (ANY village)?I've been searching for 3 MC days and ive only found a dungeon.

My approach for finding a village was to pick a direction, keep heading that way and fully search every plains or desert biome I came across. I like to go either toward sun up(east) or sun down(west). If I hit a large ocean that I can't much land across, I will head north or south for a ways and then head the other direction.
It can be tough early on. If you can get enough skel bones, tame a wolf and use it to kill animals as you travel. Punch them once and the wolf finishes them off, this saves your hunger bar. I usually killed cows for myself and chickens to feed the wolf (if I didn't have much zombie flesh to feed him).
I found 3 or 4 villages that had no blacksmith before I found one that did. By then though I had nearly two stacks of raw steaks so after making charcoal I had enough cooked steaks to last a long time.
Updated the rules based on the updates in the new snapshot. A summary:
You may not use the new singleplayer commands.
You may use the new bonus chest, but if you do, you cannot craft a chest or a jukebox, and you will lose even more points than if you craft a chest instead.

New bonus chest?
Ah, nevermind. Anyway uploading the next episode... I make a portal. Should be ready in an hour or so.
Ok I am a noob, however i have tried the challenge myself (multiple times) and i keep failing when i get into a fight with skeletons. however i think that i can put some tips out there for other people who are too lazy to think of there own idea's and strategies.
+ please add a bed achievement eg. make a bed -100 points this will allow people to travel easier
ITEMS
Bucket - Most important item in the game, can be used to make mob grinders and flushing out dungeons
Furnace - You cannot make these but find them in villages, incredibly useful for cooking food and some other stuff
Wood - Used to make buildings and 6 pieces of wood is enough to make 16 torches (if you have access to a furnace)
Cactus - This is a funny one but it can be used make walls and mob grinders
Flint and Steel - Good for travelling allows you to burn mobs + burning animals results in cooked food
Shovel - If you are lucky enough to get one it can be used to craft snowballs, enough to get plenty of blaze rods easily.
Strategies
Nomadic - Probably your best option travel village to village searching for dungeons until you find enough resources to stay in one spot
Base - Pick a village or an area near a stronghold or a ravine and bunker it up - grid search surrounding area for dungeons and other materials
Mob Grinder
- can be used to gather drops from zombies - iron armour + sword, skeletons - bows + arrows, creepers - gunpowder
- can use one of 2 trap systems lava (with ladders from a village), and cactus
- problem is it is needed to be made out of cobblestone however you can mold this or if you are lucky enough to get an iron pick axe
-Miniature Mob Grinders can be made with dungeons near by
Other interesting things possible with some items
Redstone - Can be used to reduce trips to lava while making a nether portal and redstone torches
Simple Redstone Systems - You can make systems if they contain levers, pressure plates, doors and buttons
Pumpkins - Used to make a better lightin, and snow golems if your lucky (not that there useful anyway)
Shears - Can be used to get vines off forest trees a great substitute for ladders
^ I know its not perfect but I'm not either primarily because skeletons aim hack

I agree that skeletons are hard. About 40% of the damage I have taken in this challenge has come from them (with 50% from hunger and 10% from other mobs), and the only time I died so far was because a skeleton camping out under an npc house roof.
Unfortunately, I can't add a bed achievement because they require a crafting table.
Most of those tips, I've mentioned somewhere in the OP, although you do have stuff I didn't mention. (But the redstone would be quite hard to get; you would have to get a creeper to blow it up and hope none of it gets destroyed.)
Do you want me to mention this post in the OP?
It is impossible, you can only get snowballs from shovels, which require a crafting table. You also can't make a Nether Portal as it would be very hard to find a 5 deep lava pool, then get water from the surface there, all the while not sing picks. Maybe it isn't impossible, but it'd be boring as hell.
Ok now, just finished an attempt on the challenge. I'll give an overview, found 3 large villages however no blacksmith, found an abandoned mine but left it a little while and i found another village. went back to the abandoned mine and got 3 chests...
after that i travelled around a bit trying to find a village with a blacksmith alas, the map was a dud and i eventually hit village number one again, considering this i started walking in a random direction and hit the ocean biome however in a fight i had a creeper sneak up behind me and blow up without making a sound which makes me think it was a chicken...
also as from before i thinky you should be able to make one bed because you are allowed to make a jukebox or a chest.
+ add getting a wolf in the increasing chance of survival part those things are as good as a sword when vsing enemies

Okay A quick final update on my hardcore run at this challenge. I've been sick the last couple days so found some time when I was feeling up to it to play. Made the last final push to get ready to head into the end yesterday, and just made the attemp today. Got the final 6 eyes of ender I needed, plus a spare ender orb incase my end spawn is not connected to the main land mass. I had plenty of food, an iron pick, 4 stacks of snowballs, 1.5 stacks of arrows, iron helmet, boots and pants, and my iron sword is just over half depleted.
I stand looking into the void of the portal, take a deep breath and jump in. I spawn underground which is a somewhat good sign because it tells me that I've spawned on the main land mass. Good thing I had that pick though, otherwise I would be a sitting duck if I had to punch my way out. I quickly stair my way up, and just as I get out, the dragon is making a beeline for me. I dodge him and quickly take a look around. As I go to switch things around on my hotbar such as snowballs to run around and get the low crystals with, I accidentaly look at one of the many endermen standing around. As he comes and wacks me, I quickly dump my bucket of water and then pick it back up which buys me time to switch some snowballs out. I take a quick look around and can't see the dragon (or the offended enderman), and then suddenly wack, the dragon hits me from directly above. I'm down about 4 hearts at this point, but they are regenerating. I run up to the nearest crystal and blow it up with snowballs. I'm turning to find the next nearest low crystal and see the dragon coming out of the corner of my eye, I turn to wack him with a snowball hoping he might retreat as I try to sidestep him. He swoops down at my feet and suddenly I'm flying through the air, and I mean really flying, I was a good 15-20 blocks from the edge of the end island and suddenly I'm a good 10 blocks past it as I'm falling into the void.
Good bye cruel world, goodbye much hard work. It was a good run.
My final score was 3319 and I have 42 levels of XP.
I don't think I have another run in me anytime soon. But I really had a good time with this challenge, thanks Bluemagic.
Next, there are two methods of lighting the portal. You could get flint from gravel and iron ingots from zombies or iron golems, letting you craft flint and steel with your 2x2 crafting grid. Or, you could use the skyblock method of lighting a portal.
I've never been able to get flint without a shovel.
Otherwise, this is completely possible, however you can't get torches without finding an abandoned mineshaft or hoping a creeper blows up coal, and going into a dungeon without weapons or torches (Unless you got some from a zombie or skeleton) is suicide.

A bed would make things too easy - it would allow you to skip nighttime.
There's no rule preventing you from taming a wolf - or are you saying you want me to add it as an achievement?
Eventually, the cows would run out, and wheat is necessary for a reliable food supply.
