I have a kinda unusual bar setup that goes in two stages.
at first it's like this:
- - - - - - - -
I like to keep my pickaxe on the 3rd slot because I find that the '3' key is the closest to my index finger when my hand is on the keyboard. The shovel is next to the pickaxe to make switching between the two while getting through dirt or gravel easier. The Axe is next to whatever block I have since I build small towers when I'm collecting wood to get to the very top of tall trees. The sword is in the first slot because there isn't anything else to put there and It's just sort of convinient. I keep my torch at the other side of the hotbar so that when I need it I just have to press '1' and scroll the mousewheel once. The other two spaces are for either junk I pick up or construction materials when I'm working on a house.
And then as I get farther it turns into something like this:
inv:
- - -
----------------------------
hotbar:
- - - - - - - -
(Sorry for no bucket icon, I just put water instead )
By the time I get a bow I put it in place of the shovel which gets placed in my inventory above my axe. I switch between the two tools depending on my situation since I very rarely need to use both at once. I also like to keep a golden apple and bucket on my hotbar in case of emergencies.
1. Sword
2. Pickaxe
3. Shovel
4. Axe/Torches (Depends if I am exploring/doing stuff or mining)
5. Bow
6. Food
7. Water Bucket
8. Blocks
9. Hand
I rarely play singleplayer, mostly non-pvp multiplayer, the hand is there because the server has MCmmo and my unarmed skill makes the fist stronger than an unenchanted diamond sword. The sword itself has knockback on it, for crowd control.
I also always try to have good enchantments on tools, at the moment I have Efficiency V and Unbreaking III on every tool and Power III on my bow. I am also wearing iron armour with Feather Falling IV Protection III on them. I also keep about one and a half stacks of arrows in my inventory, together with some chests and wooden logs.
A Newcomer to commentating. Mine aren't top notch yet, but I think I do a pretty good jeb. Sometimes my vides are jonk and a carn fest. My name isn't Kris or Marc IRL, it's Top Secret. I had a few YT accounts b4, but they were junk. That is all.
1.Sword
2. Bow
3. Water Bucket
4. Torches
5. Pick
6. Food
7. Misc. Tool
8. Misc. Block/ Item
9.Misc. Block/Item
When I use a hoe it is normaly on 8-9.
1 is because when I log in, it is in my hand.
2 Bow, Because it is the second closest key to my figner
3 because it is the closest key to my finger
4,5,6, and 7 so I dont have to move my finger longer distances to eat/light areas or take longer to desroy blocks.
8,9 when I am not exploring is normaly the block I am/was using. But when exploring 8 is a gravity affected block and 9 is a cheep block.

How I do it:
1.Sword
2.Pickaxe
3.Shovel
4.Axe
5.Hoe or solid,placeable block
8.Food
9.Torches
(Notice how I skiped from 5 to 8 because ores or other random crap goes there)
New and updated list (which includes several mods. EE2, Redpower2 and Better Dungeons items occupy several of the slots on the Hotbar now)
1. Diamond Sword with Sharpness IV, Knockback II and Looting III, or Monking Sword (an item from the Better Dungeons/Adventure Items mods) with the same enchantments. The latter has an area effect.
2. Longbow with Power V and Flame I (another item from Better Dungeons/Adventure Items). It has infinite durability, and is much more accurate at long ranges than a normal bow.
3. Red Matter pickaxe (from EE2). or a Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald pickaxe (all from RedPower2) with Efficiency III, Unbreaking III, and Fortune III. I have two of the latter, one ruby, one sapphire.
4. Torches
5. Portable version of EE2's Transmutation Tablet
6. Usually empty, but may have cobblestone if I am exploring a mineshaft, or one of the elemental amulets from EE2 (Volcanite near lava, Evertide if I want to go underwater for any length of time)
7. EE2 Philosopher's Stone. This can be used as a crafting table, but is also used for transmutation, mostly coal into charcoal for torches.
8. Food. This is bread in most most current world.
9. One of EE2's Alchemy Bags. These have quite a lot of storage space in them, and if you have the Talisman of Repair in one, any item, even enchanted ones, are repaired at one use/second. It can be OP - I will try to limit using it to repair weapons, armor or tools to no more than 3 times.
EE2 is one of the most OP mods in the game. From what I have read, its successor EE3 is more balanced. Pahimar has removed some of the most OP items from it.
So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
It usually changes if I'm above ground or mining, but this is the mining set
1 - Sword
2 - Bow
3 - Pickaxe
4 - Shovel
5 - Torches
6 - Bucket (water)
7 - Blocks
8 - Food
9 - Misc.
My preference:
1. Pickaxe
2. Sword
3. Axe
4. Shovel
5. Hoe
6. Misc
7. Wood
8. Cobble/Stone
9. Torches
I think I organized it in order of what I use most commonly first when I originally did it. Now it's natural to do that.
2.Sword
3.Shovel
4.Iron Pick
5.Torches
6.Food
7.Gravel/Dirt
8.Bucket of water
9.Axe

Pick
Torch
Junk Blocks
Water Bucket
Bow
Shovel
Food
Sand
Ever since hunger, I've had to change it up a bit.
Bow/food/arrows | bow/arrows/main food | Powerful Sword/bow | Average Sword
| Torches (Important) | Pick | Not as good pick |
And the last 2 are usually tools or blocks. I always bring a shovel or axe mining if I remember.
