Going to Minecon... is mostly about sharing this new idea with others, so that they can decide if they would like to adopt it in their playing. It's not about getting recognition, or having people applaud us. That stuff really isn't that important to people who are used to doing things outside of the box. In other words, our mission to Minecon isn't about us, it's about the game and our fellow players.
For us, just completing the build will be reward enough. The fact that people don't believe us, only serves to reinforce our original assertion (when we started out many months ago) that we were doing something "unbelievable".
Might be the biggest, but might also be the most bland.
Too many variables to determine the time getting all of those blocks (e.g: Did they use sheep or cave spiders for wool, did they use TNT (time getting gunpowder) or dig out the stone (time enchanting and getting picks) , did they use charcoal (tree growing time added, unless using bonemeal (then add time at skelly grinder)) or coal (time finding coal) or use a silk touch pick to get the smooth stone, etc.
The people combined would have about 1.08 billion seconds, and 18.15 million minutes to do what is said to have been done. (I just did: 14 x 30 x 24 x 60 x 60 x 30 to find out how many seconds and minutes 30 people have)
Say each block wastes an average of 10 seconds placing (quite slow) that only is 8.5 million seconds; leaving a whole 1.08 billion seconds of 30 peoples 14 months time combined and I would assume (even if getting each other block took 1 whole minute) getting the blocks would only take away another .05 billion seconds. Leaving a huge total of 1.03 billion seconds left.
Unless the very center is filled with double chests of Nether Starts I have the feeling this is just a very clever ruse. Until concrete proof is shown I call shenanigans.
I can gather 18 stacks of cobble in 20 minutes. I could cook all of that cobble in 10 minutes with 18 furnaces. Gathering 144 coal would take me about 30 minutes though. So that's about a hour per 18 stacks of cobble. Multiply that by 30 and you get 540 stacks of cobble per hour. 10 double chests per hour.
You would only need abut 270 some chests to have 853k blocks. That's only 27 hours non stop stone getting. And let's just say 10 hours string/wool getting. 37 x 60 x 60 x 30 = 4 million seconds. 4 million seconds + (let's say block number (853k) x 2 seconds per placement) 1.7 million seconds = 5.7 million seconds total time. My math the first time was waaaaaay off. Idk what I'm trying to prove, I just got bored since it's 3 in the morning here.
And in just 50 days of me playing MineCraft normally on my new computer I've gotten over 45k blocks. If I were to go for a ton of blocks I would probably already have ~200k blocks.
Your first paragraph... is right on the money. Those are all good observations, and if you were to chase down that line of thinking you would arrive at our destination. Your calculations are bang-on for the cobble mining, as well.
I have built way bigger stuff in survival without help. And that build looks super boring!
Oh damn! I'll have the mods change the title of the thread to "The Second Biggest Minecraft Survival Build Ever" right away!! Thanks for bringing your accomplishment to our attention. We almost made fools of ourselves in front of thousands of people.
its just a pyramid?
there is not anything cool about it
its a plain old pyramid
and 14 months?
i could build this in a day
but over a year to build a booring wool pyramid?
when i go to minecon this year and if i see this there im gonna ask for a refund lol
...(does a little more reading and notices somebody else's calculations that would shed a hint of light on how complex this operation is)...
I can always respect a huge survival build, especially one that has had so many people dedicate that kind of time to it. I do have some advice on the video though.
1) The tunnel intro was far too long, you almost lost me at about 15 seconds because it didn't look like the exit was getting any larger. Shorten to perhaps 5-7 seconds to allow for some verbiage on the screen to intro the build.
2) Spend more time in the video working on those "glimpses." The one you gave was very slow and of only one angle of the side of a pyramid which most people could guess at the rest of so it's not much of a mysterious glimpse.
3) Edit the video to move more to the song early on, I could feel the beat and see it in the video but there was no variation to what I was seeing, it was simply a tunnel.
4) Provide more "glimpses" than the pyramid. Since it is being claimed as the largest survival build, I assume there's more than just the pyramid so it'd be great to see the rest of the work too.
I'm sorry you're getting so much hate and I hope that the feedback I've provided here helps out a little. If you need any further help, please feel free to contact me. I do high quality cinematics for Team Fire Flare.
I read the first 2 pages of this thread, before I gave up.
What a bunch of unsupportive, nay-saying buffoons. Sure, no one can yet contest your claim, but why bash a guy so hard for saying "Hey guys I'm trying to do something new here"
Good luck to you mate, I hope you get all the satisfaction from this project as you deserve.

Thanks for the support, mrirish20!
Also, thanks for the advice on the video, although I think you misunderstand the execution of the strategy (as do 99% of the viewers, apparently). Your strategies would serve well in a different application under different circumstances for sure... take for example, your video showcasing that build. That's a great way to show off a build. Nicely done
Hey PitchBright the reason nobody believes you is because you haven't showed them anything more than one side of a pyramid and a tunnel. Sure they can't truly say you are lying since they don't know whether or not you did it, but there is no reason for them to believe that you DID do it since you haven't shown anything substantial!
P.S. You are going to get in trouble if you keep bumping your own post, even if the posts are responding to people, you can't double post, especially in your own thread!

Yeah sorry... I'm just trying to make sure I respond to every single person that replies, positive or negative feedback. It's good manners to acknowledge everybody that has taken the time to watch the video and put a few minutes into writing something down. I don't have time to answer everybody all at once, in a 5000 view thread. I'll explain that to any mod that shares your concern.

What an awesome post. Restores my faith in these forums!
It's just a pyramid. No cool patterns, no designs, nothing.
It may be big, but it doesn't matter if it isn't unique. Just because you used a camera program to film it doesn't mean you didn't use creative for it.
After some thought on after reading some of the mathy responses I must say I am more intrigued by the logistical side of the project rather than the project itself. If you could do some more footage of your mining operations etc I feel I could get a little more excited about this, rather than my initial response of 'meh..wool pyramid...boring'
This sounds like a really dumbed down version of a failed kickstarter, if you get my drift.
You've yet to sell your audience on this. I calculated it as an 800x800x200 build, but cool. Even if it's the biggest, it didn't look that great. There's many many maaaaaany more talented builders out there that deserve that amount of attention. I can't believe you really think you deserve such a spotlight that Minecon has.
You spent loads of time for no reason, *clap clap clap*. There is your congratulations from me. Even if you think your stuff is impressive, if the community here doesn't agree, why should Mojang give it any form of attention at such a big event where many people may very well likely feel it was such a waste of time?
There's hardly anything to analyze about an 800x800x200 pyramid, aside from sheer volume of blocks. Damn man, this isn't The Great Pyramid. Please stop forcing your thoughts on others, you left it up to us to decide. It's not your choice whether we like it or not.
Also, I'm not going through the 9 pages of this thread. It's not worth my time.
I have seen many huge builds. While this may be huge, I don't find it that impressive. It's just a huge pyramid made of a white block (wool?).
I've seen more detailed and creative survival builds. But the size is amazing.

Not interested.
Is that all it is? You've figured it all out?
For the umpteenth time: Staging pics and recording were done on a backup of the project, offline, and nothing is ever done to influence or impact the build itself.
What happens when you don't get invited to minecon?
C'est la vie.
English please.
EDIT: I googled it. For all the stupid people like me out there it means "that's life".
It means "Such is life."

I have read all the comments, for the fact that you had the enduring nerve to do at lease the outside that is shown, I give you
Whenever I am in survival, I build this much stuff in comparison to that.
I'm curious.
